Vehicle Description
A sharp looking El Camino is always a welcome sight. You don't see
all that many on the road any more and certainly far fewer that are
anywhere in the same league as this 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS396,
with its bold look and V8 power lurking under the hood. It'll turn
heads for sure, and it also features the strong running condition
to make it a fine match for frequent driving.
This ultra-distinctive Chevy cuts a unique, aggressive presence. It
sits inclined, as if ready to strike, and wears bright yellow paint
that ratchets up its curb appeal up even further. The bright shade
isn't just a strong statement - it looks very solid in this
setting, though a wax session would have it looking its best. The
pair of painted broad stripes running the length of the hood, as
well as the fresh-looking vinyl top, provide some very effective
contrast. A tastefully subtle scoop rises up from the hood - adding
both custom cachet and some clearance for the big block engine
below. When you step up to the front of this classic, you can
really appreciate some of the style cues - El Caminos of this
vintage feature twin double headlights and these sit astride a deep
black grille with "SS" badging at its center in very clean casings,
just above a front bumper in the very same condition. From the side
you can see how the prominent body contour running along its sides
is nice and level as it transitions from fender to door to rear
quarter panel - a good indication that it's well aligned.
Inside the doors you'll find a black vinyl interior that's been
refurbished with comfortable driving in mind. A pair of bucket
seats are front and center, wearing very fresh-looking covers and
carrying plenty of padding to make even the longest of road trips
tolerable, while a generously proportioned center console sits
between them to provide some welcome interior storage space. Up
front, the dash area retains its stock configuration and sports
clear, easily readable gauges in its instrument cluster, as well as
a nice-looking dash pad on top - it's a little loose, but a few
turns of the ratchet and some well-placed fasteners should have it
fitting snugly. The truck-like bed in back helps give the El Camino
its unique look, but in itself is no novelty. There's plenty of
usable storage space on hand here and the textured bed liner has
done its job well to keep the area free of distracting dents or
scratches.
This Chevy classic is every bit ready for the road. The 396 cubic
inch V8 sits under the scooped hood, wearing a 4-barrel carb
underneath a chrome air cleaner and a pair of chrome valve covers
on its sides. The big block fires up right away, running smooth and
sounding great as it exhales into its headers. With a 4-speed
automatic 700r4 transmission sitting just behind it, you'll have a
versatile drivetrain at your disposal that's equally well suited to
grin-inducing off the line acceleration and to low-revving highway
speeds. Power steering makes navigating easy and power brakes at
all four corners, with discs in front, provide fade resistant
stopping power for this unique muscle car as it cruises the asphalt
on its set of 15" Cragar wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich Radial
T/As.
This 1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS396 offers the chance to put a
