For Sale: 1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL in La Jolla, California

Vehicle Description

This vehicle is an original California Black Plate Car. It is believed to have only 3 owners and the most current has had possession of the car FORTY YEARS! The car has been restored twice and is properly sorted, It retains its original engine which performs very well.  Finished in 586 Mercedes Red complimented with tan leather seats, the fit and finish of this Mercedes-Benz is at or above the strict specifications from when these cars were new.  A full leather back seat is made as well as correct German Square weave carpet and lined trunk.  The vehicle has the factory soft top covered in Haartz canvas with a matching full tonneau cover.  There is a finished and carpeted trunk with factory tools and a very rare Spare Wheel Jerry Gas Can.

Under the hood the 1897cc, SOHC in-line four-cylinder engine hums to life fed by a pair of  Solex carburetors just as when new completely refurbished. Original Solex Carburetors have been completely rebuilt with all parts plated and fitted by master machinist  Sergio Bartoloini  Motor Works, San Diego California. The engine compartment is very well detailed, appearing as it did when it left the factory.  The owner has some personal touches such as a polished air cleaner and air tube. Maintained in excellent mechanical condition this car starts easily.  An electric fuel pump makes starting easy especially with today’s fuels.  The shifting is tight and sure with superb clutch action. Handling is solid and responsive, while delivering a ride that provides just enough feel of the road to maintain control. A new stainless exhaust and factory muffler is installed.  Instruments are complete and fully functional including the clock.

As befitting a restored garaged and well maintained car, this 190SL presents itself beautifully. With straight and smooth body panels, the paint shows quite well and there is only a slight indication when looking at the soft trim of this car, that it has been used at all. The tan top raises and lowers in a one-person operation with the ease and precision one expects in a finely engineered sports roadster. Complete with the original, matching numbers engine, and copies of the factory build sheet, this incredible 190SL offers a great opportunity to purchase an outstanding example of a charming and iconic roadster.

The owner has  added some personal touches to the car such as a modern radio with  blue tooth.  There are hidden speakers that do not detract from the appearance.  There is an embroidered fender cover for working on the vehicle and covers to protect the seats.   There is a personal beautifully crafted wood console between the seats which can easily be removed
