For Sale: 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SE in Atlanta, Georgia

Vehicle Description

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5. Remarkably original and well-documented with records to new; the current owner purchased this car in 1975 and has kept a hand-written diary of every single fuel fill-up, recording the date, mileage (and cost of gas) for more than 40 years. Finished in Papyrus White over dark blue MB Tex interior, the car has been repainted once to a nice standard. There's a ding the size of a golf ball in the left rear bumper, but the trim and the body itself are otherwise straight and solid. Nice chrome, grille and glass. Always a Florida and Georgia car with no known rust and no evidence of former rust repair.

Interior is completely original and is a testament to how well MB Tex holds up, even with over 200k miles and 40+ years of use. The varnish on the wood dash has darkened with age, but all of the wood veneer is holding up well with no cracks or delamination. All of the gauges, switches, indicators and courtesy lights are working properly - even the clock works, but it loses a few minutes a week. Heat and vent sliders are working including the colored backlights. Original Becker Europa stereo is also working as it should. An attractive period leather wrap adorns the steering wheel. New sisal floor mats front and rear (plus fitted trunk mat)

This 108 runs and drives well, and the 4.5 liter V8 pulls strong. Had it not been for the meticulous records, we would have assumed this car had 133k miles (instead of 233k) given how "put together" it feels. Transmission was rebuilt a few years ago and more recent service includes a full tune-up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires), oil service, new tires, belts, shifter bushings and A/C service (A/C has been converted to R-134a and is blowing cold). Steering is tight and brakes feel great. The only known mechanical issue is a slight exhaust leak.

Included with the sale are the original owner's books (including stamped service book), the original Florida title from the first owner and stacks of service records. Sold on its 1975-issue Georgia title. For more information about this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5 for sale at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.
