Vehicle Description
There's no denying the desirability of a first gen firebird.
However, when you start adding words like Numbers Matching, well
now you've got something special. That's right, this 1968 Pontiac
Firebird Coupe sits today with a brilliant mix of originality and
resto-mod components. How so? Well, under the hood lies the
original Pontiac 350ci V8 and its still covered in the correct
factory shade of Verdoro Green, however you'll also be pleased to
find coil-over shocks up front, 4-wheel disc brakes, upgraded
wheels and factory power steering.
Originally leaving the factory in the rare dark shade of Verdoro
Green, the car appears to have been repainted in the late 90s and
shows very well considering its age. You won't find any bubbles in
the paint or any other major flaws. The only thing you will notice
is minor debris chips around the nose and the bottom of the fenders
and quarters that is consistent with a car being driven and
enjoyed. The drip rails have had some bondo work and from the
receipts we can tell that the rear chrome bumper has been replaced
but the front is original and in great shape for being 50 years
old. Overall its a good 8 out of 10 and there's nothing that would
stop you from displaying this car proudly at your local car
show.
Inside the engine bay you'll find the original numbers matching 350
V8 that still wears the partial vin stamp next to the water pump
and the correct YJ stamp just below the heads. The engine received
a complete overhaul roughly 10 years ago by Dr. Bo's machine shop
in Greensboro NC. Gone is the original 2-bbl carburetor replaced by
a Edelbrock intake and a Holley 4-bbl carburetor. Gone also is the
original powerglide transmission which was replaced with a TH350
equipped with a B&M shift kit. In the back you'll find new leaf
springs and air shocks to adjust the rear height of the car. Up
front you'll find new bushing in the front end and coilover shocks
that provide a great ride. Stopping power comes courtesy of 4-wheel
drilled and slotted disc brakes which sit behind the American
Racing 15" wheels.
Inside the interior is in great shape thanks to new carpet, new
front and rear seat covers and new weather stripping. The dash,
gauges, radio and steering wheel all appear to be original and are
in good shape. Originally leaving the factory as a gold vinyl
interior the change to black was a much needed change.
