636-600-4600 Looking for an overall original unmolested and correct
chrome bumper Pantera? They are becoming almost impossible to find
recently and MotoeXotica is pleased to present this 1972 DeTomaso
Pantera (Italian for panther), a classic example of the
Italian-American cooperation between Ford and DeTomaso during the
early to mid-1970s. This unit was built in May 1972 at DeTomaso's
factory in Modena, Italy. It arrived at the Baltimore, Maryland
Port of Entry in September 1972 and was delivered to the Buffalo,
New York region. The original owner purchased it at Carl Foss
Lincoln-Mercury, Inc., in Rochester, New York on June 22, 1973. The
mileage is understood to be actual at 17,000 as stated by the
previous long time owner but is sold as mileage exempt due to age.
This model was one of 46 Panteras ordered from the Buffalo, NY
region; it is one of 558 Panteras painted this color; one of 171
Panteras made in May 1972 and one of 2,131 produced in 1972. The
car's correct yellow paint and trim are in overall very good order,
with minor blemishes visible upon close inspection. The windows are
clear and crack-free while the car's lights are in satisfactory
order. The car's bodywork is solid and straight, its engine bay is
tidy and is highly original with its correct valve cover decals,
the battery is in very good order and the small cargo area forward
of the cabin is in satisfactory order. There is a second area to
stow luggage and other items after of the mid-mounted engine and
this Pantera still contains its original space saver tire, the
jack, original bag and air canister. The car's chrome bumpers fit
well to the body and offer a great contrast to the yellow body
color. This Pantera rolls on Pirelli Cinturato tires, 185/70VR15 in
front and 225/70VR15 in back. Each tire surrounds a 15-inch
original Campagnolo Magnesium sport wheels that still have their
original factory stickers on them! Behind the front seats is Ford's
351 CID 4V Cleveland High Output V-8 engine. The engine breathes
through dual exhausts that split further into quad pipes before
they exit at the rear and the motor is mated to the correct ZF
synchronized five-speed manual transmission. Driver assist options
include air-conditioning, power four-wheel disc brakes and power
windows. Inside the interior is pretty much original and looks
great for being so! The black bucket seats are in excellent
condition, as is the matching carpet. The headliner is in decent
condition while the three-spoke steering wheel looks great. The
instrument panel, with its full array of gauges (including a
speedometer marked to 200 mph and a tachometer marked to 8,000 rpm)
facing the driver, and the inner door panels are all in very good
condition, as is the gated shifter. Completing the interior is a
aftermarket Becker AM/FM stereo. Several modifications were made
for the 1972 model year Panteras. A newfour-bolt mainCleveland
Engine, also 351CID, was used with lowercompression ratiobut with
the more aggressive "Cobra Jet" camshaft (featuring the same lift
and duration as the 428 Cobra Jet's factory performance cam) in an
effort to reclaim some of the power lost through the compression
reduction along with a dual point distributor. Many other engine
changes were made, including the use of a factoryexhaust header.
Competition to this Pantera in 1972 included AMC's AMX, Aston
Martin's DBS, the Avanti II, Chevrolet's Corvette, Ferrari's
365GTB/4 Daytona, Jaguar's V-12 2+2, and Maserati's Indy America
4700. Documentation includes multiple photographs and a Deluxe
Marti Report. Whether you're a fan of Italian sports cars, any
sports car or you simply like your two-seaters to stand out from
others, you really should stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today
