Corvette Assembly Manual We purchased this highly original big
block 4 speed Corvette from our next door neighbor who owns the
local Case equipment dealership. He has loved and cared for this
Corvette for the last 32 years. While exempt on mileage due to age,
he stated the 85,782 miles were actual on this Corvette. Nineteen
seventy-four was the end of an era for the Corvette. It marked the
last true dual exhaust system without a catalytic converter and the
final use of the LS4 Turbo-Jet 454 CID big-block engine.
MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present this 1974 Chevrolet
Corvette Convertible, which left the St. Louis, Missouri assembly
plant on March 5, 1974. It was one of 5,474 convertibles made in
1974. Dressed in Silver Mist (code 14), the car's paint and trim
are in very good condition as it had a repaint in 2007, which
included the body-colored hardtop (code C07). This car was pampered
by its owner, was only serviced by highly qualified technicians and
no expense was spared. This car has been driven proudly by its
owner and he hopes the next owner will be just as proud. The car's
windows are clear and intact and all lights and accessories work as
they should. The car's bodywork is straight and solid, the engine
bay is tidy and the car's urethane bumpers fit well to the car's
body. This car rolls on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, size
P225/70R15 at all four corners. Each tire surrounds a Rally, or
turbine style, alloy wheel. The wheels are in good order as are the
tires. Under that forward-hinged hood is the big block 454 CID V-8
engine with a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor and mated
to a Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission. Driver convenience
features include power steering (code N41), power four-wheel disc
brakes (code J50), tilt steering column (code N37), power door
locks, power windows (code A31) and air-conditioning (code C60).
Inside, the black leather bucket seats are in good order, which the
matching carpet is in decent shape. The headliner, three-spoke
steering wheel, inner door panel, dashboard with its full array of
gauges, center console and shift lever are all in satisfactory
condition and the horn is inoperable. Rounding out the interior is
a modern AM/FM stereo with CD player. For 1974, a new rear bumper
system replaced the squared tail and chrome rear bumper blades
introduced in 1968 with a trim, tapering urethane cover carrying an
integral license plate holder and recesses for the trademark round
taillights. Underneath sat a box-section aluminum impact bar on two
Omark-bolt slider brackets similar to the system used in the nose
which allowed the Corvette to pass federal five-mph impact tests at
the rear as well as the front. The new rear design was quite
beautiful, and more up-to-date than the 60's shape that it replaced
with the vast majority of enthusiasts embracing the new design. For
the 1974 model only, casting limitations mandated left and right
bumper covers with a vertical center seam. The anti-theft alarm key
activator was moved from the rear panel to the front left fender.
Tailpipes were now turned down as the new bumper cover eliminated
the tailpipe extensions. Car and Drivermagazinesaid: "...We think
the front and rear together produce a molded' shape that speaks of
function rather than decor." Chevrolet commented on the new
tailpiece in the 74 Corvette sales brochure: "Take the styling. We
wouldn't just change it for the sake of change. But when we made
the rear bumper stronger, we made Corvette's rear styling look
different. And, we think better..." Resonators were added to the
dualexhaust systemon 1974 models, which further helped quiet the
interior. The radiator and shroud were revised for better low-speed
cooling. The inside rear-view mirror width was increased from eight
to 10 inches. Hot Rodmagazine in its March 1986 issue selected the
1973-74 Corvette LS4 454 as one of the "10 most collectable muscle
cars" in the company of the 1968-70Chevelle, 1970Barracuda,
1970Challenger, 1966-67Fairlane, 1968-70AMX, 1970Camaro Z28,
1968-70GTO, 1968-69Charger and 1967-68Mustang. The big-block
Corvettes were the onlymuscle carsproduced after 1970 worthy of
the list. Direct competition to this Corvette in 1974 included
Aston Martin's V-8, Datsun's 240Z, Ferrari's Dino 308 GT4 and
Jensen's Interceptor III. This car is currently located at our
facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer
shows 85,783 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and
clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!! VIN:
