The 2012-13 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca package was the
closest Ford ever came to making a street legal Mustang race car.
Utilizing technology transferred from the successful Boss 302R
racing program, the Laguna Seca was a track car with a license
plate. Under the hood is the 302 Boss V-8 with pushing out 444hp
and 380lb-ft. of torque. This engine dubbed the "road runner" by
Ford engineering, made thirty two horsepower more than the standard
"Coyote" 5.0 used in the GT models. Ford achieved this number by
using CNC machined four valve heads for increased air flow, higher
lift exhaust camshaft, variable valve timing, sodium filled exhaust
valves, powdered metal connecting rods, aluminum pistons, and a
custom "high rise" plenum with shorter runners for higher RPM
power. This bumped the redline to 7500rpm, and this engine pulls
like a freight train all the way to the top. Ford mated this
screamer of an engine to a 6-speed, close ratio manual transmission
with a short throw shifter and a black knob that is as right as
romance. Out back is a live axle rear end with 3.73:1 gears and a
Torsen limited slip differential. Ford mates this limited slip axle
with their Advance Trac traction control system to allows you to
dial in oversteer with a tip of the throttle, but not so much that
you gain YouTube notoriety. The exhaust is unique in that it is a
quad outlet system, with side pipes exiting just under the rockers
to put the baritone beat of this amazing engine right at your ear.
The suspension on this track star was massaged with higher rate
coil springs, stiffer bushings, adjustable shock absorbers, and a
larger rear sway bar. The ride height was lowered 11mm in the
front, and 1mm in the rear to give this Boss more grip and a meaner
stance. Braking performance comes courtesy of the experts at
Brembo, with vented discs all around. Putting all this power and
grip to the ground are staggered fitment Pirelli PZero Corsa tires
mounted on 19x9" front, and 19x10" rear painted and polished
aluminum wheels. The "aero package" on the outside is directly
copied form the Boss 302R race car. The front splitter is
adjustable for rake, and there are functional brake cooling ducts
built into the front fascia. Outback, the rear spoiler is Boss
specific and generates more down force at speed than the stock GT
unit. The gorgeous black paint is flawless and is set off by the
bright red Boss graphics, spoiler, mirror caps, and roof panel.
Inside, this Boss is equipped like one. The stock GT seats were
tossed for manually adjustable Recaro units with big side bolsters
and sticky suede upholstery to keep you firmly in control. The back
seats are gone for good, replaced with a red painted X-brace that
increases torsional rigidity by over 10%. The steering wheel is
covered in alcantara suede just like you find on the race car to
enhance grip in track situations. When you're not on the track, you
can enjoy all the creature comforts you would expect in a car of
this caliber. You get air conditioning, AM/FM/CD, auto down power
windows, power mirrors, dual cupholders, and console with USB and
AUX inputs. This Boss also includes a fully enclosed tandem axle
trailer with custom ramps and tie downs so you can bring this
amazing car everywhere you go and keep the miles low. This Boss has
it all, and sits proudly at the top of the Boss Mustang heritage.
