Vehicle Description
1950 MG TD ROADSTER for sale. Motorcar Classics is proud to present
this superb 1950 MG TD Roadster. Featured in Red with Tan interior
and matching Tan top. This fine MG comes to us from its third
owner, an enthusiast who owned and cherished the car for 43 years!
Over that time the car was was restored to the last bits and pieces
and there is a substantial history file included. The work was
spread over long periods as the owner had time and money to do the
work properly, and the car moved with him and his family a number
of times. In the late 1970s the engine was sent to McBetts Racing
in Copiague, NY they bored it .040 over and rebuilt the head. The
clutch was replaced as well. The owner took the body completely
apart and replaced all the wood with the exception of the doors,
that were sound. While living in Virginia the car was sent to Bob
amp; Pegs Vintage Tin where they took the car down to the frame,
and painted the frame, engine, transmission, and body. The car was
painted California Red and there are receipts for some $8K worth of
work and pictures. The owner and the car returned to New York in
the early 90s. The owner had the gauges rebuilt by Nisonger and he
added a temperature gauge to the oil pressure gauge. The
carburetors were sent for rebuild to Joe Curto. The car was sent to
Mannings Imports in Glen Head, NY, in April of 2014 to be re-wired
and re-commissioned to get it back on the road. Manning installed a
new interior and put a new top and side curtains on the car. They
rebuilt all the brakes and boiled out the gas tank and had it
coated. Mannings worked on the car for 6 months and the receipts
are in the documentation. The owner added turn signals, electronic
ignition and an electronic fuel pump for added reliability. The
rims were powder coated and new tires were put on in 2014. This
fine TD is an original matching number car that has never been
rusted and has always been garaged. The headlights, parking lights
and taillights are original as is the body with the exception of
the bumpers and over riders. The hand crank is present behind the
seat. The correct jack is in the tool box. The car also has a
period correct after-market heater. It throws out quite a bit of
heat and keeps you warm on those chilly days. Amazingly, the car
only has about 100 plus miles on the engine since rebuild so it is
still being broken in!Post WWII American servicemen discovered the
joys of these simple and nimble roadsters and they were
subsequently imported to the US in large numbers. For many people
these T series cars were their introduction to sports cars, and a
lot of racing drivers started out the MGs. For collectors today
these cars still offer the virtues of fun and simplicity. They are
easy to work on and virtually any part is available brand new. With
the top down, they are ideal for cruising back roads and
challenging your favorite twisty bits. This is one of the best-kept
MGTDs that we have had the pleasure to offer. The restoration is
all well-done and authentic, making this car a great candidate to
drive or show. It would also make a wonderful tour car as it is
delightful to drive. Bring your string-back gloves!
