For Sale: 1971 Plymouth GTX in Grayslake, Illinois

Vehicle Description

This 440 +6 Plymouth GTX is only one of only 73 automatics built for the model year. Trimmed out in Rally Red over white bucket seat interior and an option list fit for the king; this GTX is a celebration of speed and luxury. Factory options are verified by both the factory Fender Tag and Original Build Sheet, which include Air Grabber hood, hood tie-down pins, hood mounted turn signals, front and rear spoilers, power windows, high contract white interior, console, floor shifter, tinted glass, dual sport mirrors, 3.55:1 High Performance Axle Package, Extra Cooling Package, etc.

This example has been Concours rotisserie restored, is 100% numbers matching, build sheet documented and museum kept. All excellent restorations begin with excellent cars. This one is no exception. She was a clean, dry driver, needing only some TLC to keep it on the road, but the previous owner decided to take it over the top instead. Initial tear down, body work and paint were conducted by renowned California based builder, Restorations by Julius. Mechanicals, final assembly, and Concours detailing were completed by OE Mopar maven, Roger Gibson. It's the best of both worlds - better-than-factory paint and panel fit, and faithful factory detail. This GTX is enjoyed today as a public museum piece in Concours driven condition.

If you think this car looks familiar, you are probably right. It has been featured in magazines, invited to premier displays at Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, and featured in the TV series, American Icons: The Muscle Car, hosted by Chip Foose. If you are looking for the perfect balance of high style and high performance, that is also an investment you can drive and enjoy, this is the car for you.

Exterior Condition

The restored to original exterior in Rallye Red with white vinyl top is as new or better, having been expertly executed by acknowledged experts in the restoration of classic Mopar cars. Since restoration, the GTX has served primarily as a show car and museum display, and its fit and finish reflect this care and limited exposure to outdoors and public use. Very close scrutiny reveals small and easily made corrections typically resulting from transport and storage, not readily detected.

Engine Bay Condition

The GTX engine bay and drive-train are impeccably finished and detailed as new, with all original components present and working. The rare and numbers matching 440 3x2bbl with heavy duty automatic transmission option, along with all ancillaries show excellent finish and correct presentation. Topped by a rare and operational Air Grabber hood, this drive-train and engine bay are concurrent with the car's very accurate restoration.

Interior Condition

Restored to original white, with center floor shift console, the GTX retains much of its freshly restored appearance, showing little use. Since completion of its restoration, the car has been primarily used as a show and museum display car, and the interior reflects the light use. Under scrutiny, very minor and correctable blemsishes are visible, but in whole, the GTX interior is as new or better.

Chassis and Undercarriage Condition

Chassis and undercarriage remain as restored to new condition, with a clean and well detailed appearance. All components are restored to factory new or better. There is no road use evident and no deterioration from exposure, supported by the car's care and museum display role since restoration.

Collectibility

From the final year of the true Mopar muscle car era, this 1971 GTX with 440ci engine and Six pack option, with automatic transmission is truly rare as one of 73 such cars produced. This is a first year redesign of the B-body platform, but the last year for the GTX nameplate, making this a one year only model. Overall fit and finish are highest quality and present very well. Desirability for this rare, end of the line car in attractive finish and desirable option list points to a GTX with high collectibility and a true investment level car. Documentation includes previous title registrations and factory broadcast sheet.
