Vehicle Description
This sleek, roomy drop top has plenty to offer. With a great
looking, original color draped over its exterior and a host of
upgrades added to extract maximum power out of its era-correct
powerplant, this 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible is a classic
cruiser with few rivals, and its ready to provide some serious
vintage mojo for its next lucky owner.
Ford focused their design efforts on the Galaxie the year before
this '66 came out, giving it a broader and longer body than its
predecessors and adding the distinctive stacked headlights you'll
see here. It's a long, generously proportioned ride, with its size
well distributed among its hood, cabin and trunk area. The extra
length serves it well, giving this drop top a definite "Hop on in
and bring your friends" good-times vibe. Its dark blue metallic
shade is not just original, but a great looking color in its own
right - deep and understated. This is also a well-aligned car - the
hood sits nice and flush in between the fenders and you'll find
even gaps surrounding the doors. In back, some nice modification
work has been done to the tailpipes to give them a more prominent
look than they started with, and their chrome tips peek out just
the right amount below the rear bumper.
The blue interior looks very sharp. Both the buckets in front and
bench seat in back are sporting new-looking covers that show
virtually no signs of use and offer plenty of padding. As you look
around at the space that surrounds you, it's very easy to picture
yourself with your crew heading down the highway with the top down
on your way to making some memories. Just beyond the woodgrain
steering wheel, the dash area blends a few aftermarket components
into the mix - an AutoMeter tach sits at the center, with a trio of
additional gauges down below to assist the factory gauges in the
cluster. The original AM radio sits in place, but a Pioneer
AM/FM/CD player is mounted just below to offer more modern audio
options. The trunk area in back is just as spacious as you would
expect and even with a subwoofer mounted to one side, there's all
kinds of room left over - no need to leave luggage behind on road
trips, as it should all fit easily here.
The period-correct 390 cubic inch V8 sitting under the hood was
already well-regarded for its substantial torque in factory
configuration, and in this setting it benefits from a host of
well-selected components that up its power game quite a bit
further, including Edelbrock RPM heads and intake, a Holley
4-barrel carb, Summit Racing electronic ignition and fuel pump, an
Accel distributor and Hooker headers. The chrome valve covers and
air cleaner really add to its overall look as its sits in an engine
compartment that's every bit as clean as it is spacious, surrounded
by fresh hoses and properly routed wiring. It's a great sounding
ride and its idle strikes a nice balance - with just a bit of lope
to let you know that there's a special powerplant on board without
being too jarring. It pairs with a 3-speed C6 automatic
transmission known for its durability to make a very road-ready
drivetrain - this classic Ford is very much ready to hit the
streets as soon as you get it home. Power steering makes navigation
easy, while 4-wheel power brakes, with discs in front, provide
fade-resistant stops as it cruises on its 15" stock Ford rims
outfitted with BF Goodrich Touring T/A tires.
