The AMX, if you don't know, stood for: American Motors Experimental, and the original “2-seater” cars, like this one were produced in 1968, 1969, and 1970 only. Equipped with the 390 engine, they were a very strong, outstanding street competitor for the Mustangs, Camaros, Cuda's, Challengers, and Firebirds, as well as on the drag strip!
There were just 53 Hurst S/S models produced for “Drag strip only” duty, and sold through AMC dealers to racers. The racers would then have the (mostly produced in white) cars painted in the Red, White, and Blue paint scheme like you see here on this car.
This car is not one of the 53 S/S models, but was painted to pay homage to those “off the dealership floor 10 second in the ¼ mile cars”.
This particular car was originally Matador Red, and repainted in base/clear Red, White, and Blue, and the paint is beautiful. Absolutely no rust or odd images emanating from the paint what so ever. AMC did not have a partial VIN stamped into the block, so I didn't know for certain if it is the original, but it very well could be. Either way, the engine has been rebuilt with some nice upgrades such as electronic ignition, aluminum intake manifold, and a higher performance cam. The result is a very strong, good running AMC 390.
The 4 speed transmission shifts smoothly, and the car drives great! All of the chrome and bright work is excellent on the car, and all of the weather striping was replaced when the car was painted over 15 years ago. This is a very clean, very nicely restored '69 AMX that has traveled 11,252 miles since it's completion.
This AMX is highly visible, and makes a very impressive statement year 'round, but even more so around the 4th of July!
If you're considering an AMX, and want one that's been well restored, very clean everywhere you look, and well taken care of, This is an AMX to consider and will certainly standout from the rest!
