For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1968 Chevrolet Camaro

History
In 1966 Mustangs were flying out of Ford showrooms, and Chevrolet needed an answer. After many secret meetings, and covert internal press events, engineers unveiled the official name for what had been known up to this point as XP-836. Camaro was the chosen namesake, and immediately the question became "but what does it mean?". This question has no official linguistic answer, but as Chevrolet marketing people would answer "It's an animal that eats Mustangs!"

In search for a car to meet his wife's stipulation of owning a car much like her first car, this current owner settled upon this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS. The odometer shows 82,605 miles and it is believed to be original miles. A transmission change from automatic to 4-speed is now linked to the original engine. This 2-door hardtop version of the first-generation Camaro design, and performance modifications, make this a Chevrolet Camaro enthusiast put it on their must-see list.

Exterior
Black paint with several over coats of clear adorn this Camaro. A matte black stripe wraps around the front hood and grille area, framing a 327 insignia noting the displacement. Paint is in very good condition, a small area on the passenger roof shows some imperfection in the clear coat. Front grille area is very clean, and headlight surrounds are free of imperfections or flaking. All chrome is in excellent condition, and polished to a sparkling shine. Wheels are original Chevrolet Rally wheels, and present in fair condition. Tires are oversized Firestone Firehawk radial tires in rear, and Fuzion HR1 on front. All lights are functional and correct for this 1968 Model.

Interior
Black bucket front seats covered in vinyl, and a rear seat are in good condition. Black carpeting covers all surfaces and is worn on the driver's side floor. The original steering wheel frames 2 deep round gauge clusters on the dash. Vintage air conditioning is present, and a Hurst Shifter with black engraved "H" pattern on a white field sits comfortably within driver reach. A black headliner is tear and blemish free. Door panels are original vinyl covering, and pull handles show no cracks or tears.

Drivetrain
The original 327ci V8 produces 210hp and connects to a 4-speed manual transmission. Stainless steel headers combine with Flowmaster performance H pipe dual exhausts to quickly and efficiently breathe the engine. The front suspension is independent, and rear suspension is mono leaf sprung. The appearance of drum brakes are on all 4 wheels. Underside of this vehicle is total rust free, with toe boards, floorboards, and trunk drops looking in very good condition, and have never been replaced.

Documentation and Accessories
The original owner's manual, a 1968 owner protection plan, and a Readers Digest glove compartment road atlas and vacation guide can be found in the glove compartment.

Purchased by the current owner for sentimental purposes, low miles have been clocked on this mostly original car. This classic first edition mid-size muscle car has straight lines, great chrome, and has been obviously well cared for. Performance exhaust allows you to hear this car before you see it, but when doing so, you will definitely want to look!
