Vehicle Description
This is a 1968 Ford Mustang High Country Special with 51,000
original miles. This car was built in San Jose and is one of 251
cars produced in 1968 with the High Country Special option. It is
finished in Wimbledon White with red vinyl standard bucket seats
and comes equipped with the original shoulder harness belts. It is
powered by a 289ci 2V engine and a C4 select-shift automatic
transmission. The restoration included stripping the body to bare
metal and repainting to the original color with original stripes
and decals, rebuilding the original engine and transmission, and
replacing the gas tank. New exhaust, fuel lines, new tires and
brake cylinders were installed, and the leaf springs were replaced
with the goal of keeping the car as original as possible. The
interior was gone over with new carpet and new vinyl, but was kept
mostly original. The car comes with pictures from the restoration,
list of High Country Special production showing it is the second
car produced in 1968. This actual car was featured on the
California Special/High Country Special ad when Ford announced the
High Country Special to the area dealers at Continental Speedway on
July 11, 1968. Some brochures from 1968 and some articles are also
included, along with hubcaps, original tool kit and Marti Report.
