Vehicle Description
1928 Ford Model A Roadster
History
During the mid 1920's Ford realized their competitors had caught on
to the idea of assembly line mass production and had to move
forward from the Model T design. This was especially true by
offering more powerful engines, new convenience features, or
cosmetic options. Also, features Henry Ford considered to be
unnecessary, such as electric starters were gradually shifting in
the public's perception from luxuries to essentials. Ford realized
his new design had to move some of his manufacturing theories from
Design for Manufacturing, to Flexible Mass Production, and what
would be the successful run of the model A began.
This Open Top Model A Roadster with Pickup body has a solid base
frame, refurbished interior and convertible top. The odometer shows
11,010, but actual mileage is unknown. The exterior has no rusting
or dimpling, however needs a total paint restoration.
Exterior
Body is free from rust and the running boards, wheels, and bed of
the truck have been restored. Current paint scheme shows a Straw
Yellow, with Black running boards, Black spoked wheels and rims.
The paint shows chipping, areas of cracking, and fenders exhibit
overspray, with a previous paint restoration underneath that is
cracking. The convertible top is in good condition with all snaps
and fasteners intact. Bumpers have no rusting or pitting and retain
a beautiful shine. Stained oak boards have been used in conjunction
with metal strapping to re-create truck's bed. All glass is crack
free, and clear. Wind winglets have been installed on both sides.
Exterior lighting is in good condition and functioning well.
Interior
Excepting any metal surfaces, the interior is in excellent
condition. A new rubber flooring, pedal rubber, and vinyl bench
seat are installed. The steering wheel is in good condition, with
shifter, and handbrake are presenting restored. A windshield wiper
motor is present with a driver's side wiper. Metal painted surfaces
have cracking, crazing, on dash and interior doors. Wear is evident
at painted interior firewall surface.
Drivetrain
The engine is a water-cooled L-head inline four with a displacement
of 201 cu in. This engine provides 40 hp with a top speed of around
65 mph. The Model A had a 103.5 in wheelbase with a final drive
ratio of 3.77:1. The transmission was a conventional unsynchronized
three-speed sliding gear manual with a single speed reverse. The
Model A has four-wheel mechanical drum brakes. Suspension is
straight axle with buggy spring.
This is a relatively unusual option combination of the Ford Model A
Roadster. A 1928 pickup body with an open top, that is 90 years
old, and can be driven away. Perfect for the A-bone customizer, or
original restorer. An older restoration with solid body and
mechanicals.
