1972 Ford Mustang Fastback
History
The Ford Mustang is an American car manufactured by Ford. The 1965
Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model
A. The Mustang has undergone several transformations to its current
sixth generation.
The Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a performance-oriented option package of
the Ford Mustang, originally introduced by Ford in August 1968 as a
package for the 1969 model year. The Mach 1 title adorned
performance oriented Mustang offerings until the original
retirement of the moniker in 1978.
Why This Car Is Special
It is not often that you can find a high end restoration on a 1972
Ford Mustang Mach 1 with the 351-4V engine, Ram Air Package, and a
Marti Report all wrapped in a gorgeous Red on Red paint and
interior scheme. We have one here at Skyway Classics.
Mechanical
One of the most recognizable features of the '71-'73 Mustangs is
the optional NACA (NASA) hood design with dual scoops. Though
available as a visual, non-functional item, they could be made
fully functional on models ordered with the Ram Air option, which
included vacuum controlled 'flaps' inside each scoop, and a
fiberglass under-hood 'plenum' that directed cool, outside air
through a modified, rubber-ringed air filter housing and into the
carburetor. The ram-air option included a two-tone hood paint
treatment in 'matte black' coordinated to the base color of the
Mach 1 and its decals and striping.
The 351-4V engine puts out over 250 horses under the new SAE net
horsepower rating system, which was still a healthy number by the
standards of the day, and looks factory correct with its blue
painted valve covers and air cleaner sitting in the good looking,
detailed engine compartment.
It came from the factory with power steering and front disc brakes,
correct chrome wheels with B.F. Goodrich white letter radial T/A
tires.
Interior
Our 72 has a mint perfect new Red Mach 1 sports bucket seat
interior and console with new door panels, new carpet, headliner,
console with floor mounted shifter, power windows, electric clock,
AM-FM Radio, padded sun visors, factory tach, and the rare Fold
down rear seat option.
Needless to say when you see this Mach 1, the whole car needs
nothing and looks like it just came out of the showroom.
Exterior
In 1972 saw deletion of the pop-open gas cap, which was replaced
with the standard twist-on cap found on the other Mustang models
that year. Our Mustang has an immaculate repaint in correct Bright
Red paint with new correct Black Mach 1 decals, new chrome and
stainless, correct factory Rear Deck Spoiler, Tinted Glass, and a
detailed engine & trunk compartment.
Conclusion
This 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 we have here at Skyway Classics is an
attention getting, top of the line example of a Mustang as you can
get. Red on red with a 351 and the Ram Air Hood and stripes is
about as mean a look in a muscle car as you can get. Come get it
today.
