For Sale: 1951 Studebaker Champion in Houston, Texas

Vehicle Description

This is visually spectacular. Mechanically original. I did the chrome (re-chromed 7 years ago, not aftermarket therefore: $$). There is some microscopic pitting in the chrome, but you have to be right on top of her to see it.

High end professional paint (also 7 years ago) ($$) two tone metallic with a slight flip in the darker blue. There are some imperfections in the paint (pictured) which are old and stable.

Has been mechanically done really well. No idea about the miles (but probably not bad), but this is a SOLID car. Min rust, no cancer, just some skimming during repaint. I believe in keeping it largely original and here it is. Car has been stored in a garage when not outside and is holding nicely. She will start after sitting for some time easily.  I start her every week and she comes alive easily.

The interior was done by a previous owner and remains.  Imperfect, yes, but very usable. I added seat belts and moved the front seat back about 2 inches to make for easier driving.

I have redone the brakes and fuel system recently as well as the throwout bearing in the clutch.  The clutch was inspected at that time and was deemed in very good shape.  Fuel pump and carb are new.  I had a bear of a time figuring out why she dragged above 65 mph and did wires, plugs, coil, distributer cap, points, evaluated the fuel tank, etc.. What it turned out to be was a kink in the fuel line back by the fuel tank.  Fixed and no more drag.

The transmission is a 3 on the tree with an automatic overdrive, which works.  Will run 70-75mph easily, in Houston, in the summer.  60-4 air-conditioning (60mph, 4 windows down).

Tires are less than 2 years old and ply.  They have less than 100 miles on them.

Everywhere I go in this, somebody has a story about one like her. I have lots of receipts as I got it from the guy who had her for 20+ years. Suicide doors.  Have more pics. Glass is good with some crazing.  The driver's side window is tired, but will go up and down with some guidance.

This car was found behind a drugstore in Mississippi in the 1980's and was worked on by the previous owner.  He sold it to me and it became a classic labor of love. But time to pass it on.  If you want a car that is fun to drive, dependable, solid and sorted this is one for you.  I have 2X the asking price in the car as you can imagine. (chrome $2K, paint $7.5K, Car $5K, mechanical $10K+)

Couple of flaws, but she is 64 years old. Can take and send any pic. Shipping at buyers expense after $$ clears.
