Vehicle Description
The Fox Mustangs are 35 years old now. I'm going to let that sink
in while you look at how sleek this 1992 Ford Mustang LX 5.0
hatchback looks. Awesome black paint gives it a low-profile look,
while a stout 5.0 provides plenty of old-school V8 motivation. With
a ton of recent work and a potent engine, this is a fast, fun pony
that hasn't been beaten or abused but certainly packs a serious
punch.
The clean lines made the LX somewhat of a sleeper in the early
'90s, but everyone knew to look for the 5.0 badges and the twin
polished tailpipes out back. Today, it's practically invisible
among all the stripe-wearing GTs and Shelby Mustangs, but the
clean, unadorned lines of the LX look as good as ever. The fresh
black paint is nicer than most of these cars that you see today and
maybe even better than new. They added a cowl induction hood, but
that's it for exterior modifications, giving it a very purposeful
look that everyone knows isn't just an illusion. There are no
indications that this car has been raced, wrecked, or otherwise
mistreated, with doors that close easily and great panel alignment
throughout. New weather-stripping helps with the tight feeling, and
there's not even a wild-looking wing out back, suggesting that the
guy who built this one had good taste as well as a desire for
horsepower.
The black interior is tastefully upgraded, offering factory bucket
seats covered in fresh black leather upholstery. Black interiors
were still rather rare in 1992, and most Mustang fans are willing
to pay a premium for it, because they get the black carpets,
console, and dash to go with the black seats. Better yet, you'll
note that the back seat was upholstered to match, so you know it
wasn't a cut-rate job. A fat leather-wrapped steering wheel feels
great in your hands, and the relatively upright greenhouse makes
the Mustang very user-friendly in traffic, where it's the ultimate
point-and-shoot machine. The original gauges were replaced by a set
of Auto Meter Cobalt gauges and there's a trick shifter for the
5-speed manual. The original radio is long gone, replaced by a
modern AM/FM/CD head unit and lots of amperage, plus a subwoofer
box in back. Other options include cold A/C, power windows and
locks, rear defroster, and power mirrors, making this a fairly
loaded LX. With rear seats that fold down, cargo capacity is
reasonable even with the subwoofer and relocated battery.
The venerable 5.0-liter V8 under the hood has been nicely upgraded
to a 347 cubic inch stroker with a lot of expensive goodies. The
list includes a Boss 302 block, AFR aluminum heads, a
street-friendly cam, aftermarket intake manifold, and a set of
shorty headers. Everything you can see has been powdercoated or
polished, making it show-worthy in just about every way. And yes,
it runs even better than it looks; this might just be the
best-running Fox Mustang we've ever had, and that's no easy feat!
The 5-speed manual shifts beautifully and powers the original
8.8-inch rear end full of 3.73 gears that make this thing insanely
quick, and the front suspension is reinforced with a set of tubular
A_arms that make a difference you can feel. It's been lowered
slightly, and the look is enhanced by chrome Torque Thrust wheels
wearing fat 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Nitto radials.
Still fast and still fun after all these years, this is the kind of
5.0 Mustang that you've always wanted to own. Call today!
