the Ford Mustang, with almost a quarter million units sold. The
exterior remained the same except for a high mounted 3rd brake
light added to the rear. Ford offered the usual 4 cylinder that
produced 88 HP and a V6 rated at 120 horses. For the GT model Ford
traded the carbureted 302 for fuel injection. The GT motor received
a long runner aluminum intake and 58mm throttle body. Cast forged
pistons brought the compression ratio to 9.2 to 1. The heads were
E6SE with fast burning combustion chambers. Ford upgraded the axle
to a significantly beefier 8.8. 1986 also was the last year of the
SVO. The turbo 2.3L delivered 205 HP and was considered well ahead
of its time. Unfortunately the price tag made the SVO less
desirable to the Mustang enthusiast for the period. 1986 was the
final year of the SVO's three year run, due to the popularity of
the 5.0L, which gave V8-quality performance at a much lower price
than the SVO. Front Air Dam, Rear Spoiler, Center Console, Power
