Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of Nashville is proud to present this Kustom
1939 Ford Coupe. Yes... that's custom with a K, and I'll tell you
why. In the 1960's car customizers were going to greater lengths
than ever before to differentiate their builds from those of their
contemporaries. One person that became a household name was know
for his over the top builds, and that man was George Barris. Barris
was pioneer in custom car design and fabrication along with other
greats like Norm Grabowski, Bill Hinds, and Gene Winfield. George
Barris and his brother started the "Kustoms Car Club of LA" in the
mid 50's, some suspect Von Dutch's misspelling on a sign, likely
intentional, to be the reason for the K in the club name. Kustoms
of this era can be broken down into two categories Mild and Full
Kustom. This 1939 Ford Coupe for sale is a great example of a
modern Mild Kustom. The original beauty of the car's lines has been
retained however custom headlight and tail light treatments have
been used, the interior is covered in leather like pleat and roll
vinyl as are the running boards on the exterior, the floors covered
in a gold medium pile carpet, and gold flake zodiac vinyl piping
has been added to tie the interior to the stunning gold flake paint
job on the outside. This gold flaked kustom has won the best flake
award the Billetproof car show and it is no wonder why... it's a
flake lovers dream and looks like something straight from a 1960's
Autorama winner's circle. Powering this 1939 Ford Coupe is a small
block chevy that has Cal Custom's valve covers to continue the
theme of a 1960's build. There are obviously a few departures from
the old school here, the major two for most people being the
installation of air conditioning and a modern sound system. Safety
belts have also been added along with power steering and brakes to
make this Kustom as safe as it is kool. If you're ready to go back
