the original Grand Sport Corvettes did in 1963, it extends the
current boundaries of performance for sports cars. And, this car
does that while providing a level of luxury and safety that seemed
impossible until now. But it is now. So, check out this Collectors

Presented in Watkins Glen Gray Metallic, this car is gorgeous. It's
trying to be somewhat understated and stealthy, but the shape of
the new Corvettes, sculpted in the wind tunnel with fenders
stretching out to cover massive tires, is intimidating no matter
what color it is painted. Then there are those tell-tale, Tension
Blue hash marks on the front fenders. They are a nod to the race
cars of 1963 where they were a way to tell otherwise identical cars
apart during the race. On this car, there is also a Grand Sport
badge that appears on the air extractor vents just behind the front
wheels. The rest of the look is lean, mean, fighting machine. It's
sits low with ground effects that include an air dam that almost
scrapes the ground in the front, intake and extractor vents to
direct air in very precise ways, and a rear spoiler to keep the
rear end planted at speed. You should really come on down and check
this car out in person. It's hard to describe in words.
Open the door and any pretense of understatement goes out the
window. The Tension Blue interior jumps right out at you. The
leather seats with black centers trimmed in blue are comfortable
and supportive. Have a seat and set the tilt and telescoping
steering wheel to your perfect driving position. You will be
surrounded by luxury and technology that makes relaxed touring or
sporting around back roads at speed enjoyable. The gauges are back
lit and clearly visible. Power everything is at your fingertips.

There is a plaque indicating that this car is Collectors Edition
#442 just below the ventilation controls. There is a heads-up
display, a back-up camera and a killer Bose sound system. The
driver in you will appreciate the shifter for the 7-speed manual
transmission that falls easily to hand and offers a level of
engagement while stirring it around that many cars don't have these
days. For pleasure cruising, you may want to remove the Targa roof
to enjoy the open-air feeling and take in the scenery.
Under the hood you will find a direct injection, LT1 engine that
pumps out 460 horsepower. Of-course there is some snug packaging
with accessories and performance items vying for space, along with
carefully crafted covers and ducts for precise airflow, so the
Corvette scripted intake covers are all there is to tell the tale.
The Grand Sport is a bit of a hybrid of the Z51 Stingray and the
Z06. It has the Dry Sump engine of the Z51 along with the 7-speed
trans with Active Rev Match, making it a very track-capable car,
and the wide bodywork of the Z06 so that it can squeeze the maximum
amount of rubber under the fenders and put all that power on the
road. Those tires are mounted on special Grand Sport wheels and you
can see the massive Brembo antilock brakes through them so you can
be confident that you can haul this car back down from speed.
