Vehicle Description

Vehicle Description

Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this beautiful numbers matching 1972 Corvette Stingray in excellent condition with only 31,260 original miles. This Stingray looks stunning, runs great, and drives awesome. It is finished in the stunning and highly desirable color combination of Elkhart Green (946) over Saddle Leather (421). This is the correct and original color scheme as verified by the codes on the trim tag. This Corvette is completely "Numbers Matching" with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the engine pad, which is pictured below. The transmission is also original with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. The very low mileage is verified as original not only by the condition of the car, but also the clear Ohio title, also pictured below, that shows the mileage as "Actual."

We have this car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very rare and desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. It is exceptionally hard to find a Corvette from this era with this low mileage. This example is also loaded with sought-after options like air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, tilt/telescopic steering column, and an automatic transmission. One could easily buy this Stingray now and sell it for more than the purchase price in years to come as the market on "chrome bumper" C3 Corvettes from 1968-1972 is absolutely red hot right now. Please peruse all of the photos, video, list of numbers, and other information below to get a true sense of how nice this Corvette really is.

As a side note, this Corvette is not a dealer auction vehicle.  We hand pick each car after careful inspection.  Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.  We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have the car inspected.  Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.  We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel confident about your purchase.  If you have a question about the Corvette, just give us a call.

Model Description

The 1972 Corvette was truly the end of an era. 1972 was the last year to feature chrome bumpers and the "egg crate" grill, it is considered to be the last year of truly classic Corvettes. Years after were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns, 1972 is considered the last "good" year. It was also the last year to feature a pop out rear window, and the first year that the way horsepower ratings are measured changed from gross to the more accurate net. As in investment, the 1972 will always have an advantage and out perform other years because of its precedence as the end of a a very great period for Corvette and muscle cars as a whole.

Numbers

Please note when checking the numbers that not only do the correct stampings and casting numbers appear on the parts, but all of the dates are also chronologically correct. This means that all of the parts were made and assembled in the correct order. For example, all of the dates for the individual engine components and the engine casting date should obviously precede the assembly date of the engine because the parts had to be produced before they could be assembled. All of the parts I checked follow this rule and are dated correctly.

Exterior

The Elkhart Green exterior is in spectacular driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and smooth finish. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels and center caps are in excellent condition with a brilliant finish. Please note that this car has the correct and original 4-clip style beauty rings, not the cheap aftermarket replacements. The BF Goodrich Radial TA tires are almost new and correctly sized 225/70R15. The chrome and other bright looks great with no pitting or cloudiness. There are some marks on the top that are visible in the photos and a few very tiny blemishes around car that were too small to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. The underside of this car is very clean. We have included specific photos of the areas on the car that are most prone to rust. We have seen no evidence of rust or corrosion around the "key hole" area on the frame or the "birdcage" area around the windshield, which are the most common spots for rust on C3 Corvettes. We have included many photos of the underside to show how nice it looks.

Window Date Codes

Please note that almost all of the glass on this Corvette, both "Astro Ventilation" door windows and even the pop-out rear window, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of July 13, 1972 (L13). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.

Interior

The Saddle interior in this Corvette is in wonderful condition. The seats are in excellent shape with no split seams or excessive wear. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The gauge faces are clean and crisp and the lenses are clear. The door panels also look like new with no splits and no cracking on the arm pad where the driver's elbow would sit. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console look awesome with no sun fading, there is a small crack in the left speaker grill that is visible in the photos. The original radio is still with the car and gets good reception. Most importantly, the dash has never been cut or modified for an aftermarket installation. This Stingray has never been smoked in; there are no cigerette marks and no aroma of cigarettes.

Mechanical

This Corvette seems to be in very good mechanical condition. It starts right away every time, idles smooth, and runs great. The car is an awesome driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating onto the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well overall. As one can observe in the video, the car initially goes into high idle as it should and after a couple of minutes it properly goes into normal low idle with when the gas pedal is pressed. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean, detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos with the original air cleaner, valve covers, and upper ignition shielding.

Overall Condition

Overall, this 1972 Corvette looks fantastic. Low mileage cars from this era are exceptionally rare and draw a huge premium in the current market. Also, we have found Elkhart Green over Saddle to be one of the most attractive and most desirable color combinations. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and as one can see, this car is quite correct. There are photos below of the VIN stamp on the engine block, suffix code, engine assembly date, transmission date, and transmission VIN stamp. There is a key for the ignition and no key for the doors. We can provide a door key for the new owner for an additional $200. In my opinion and based on our experience the "Chrome Bumper" cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now. The value of these cars has gone up exponentially in recent years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
