Vehicle Description
Offered here is one of the most iconic cars ever produced by one of
the top reproduction manufacturers. The original 1965 Shelby
Cobra's were the fastest cars ever produced at the time, but this
one is faster. And more fun to drive. This 1965 E.R.A. (Exact
Replica Automobiles) Cobra S/C 427 Roadster Replica is top class in
fit and finish. It was built in the factory in New Britain,
Connecticut, not in an enthusiasts garage. Since the 80's,
E.R.A.has been recreating Shelby's 427 S/C Cobras in EXACT form.
When first unveiled, the car was so perfect in original
representation that Car and Drive Magazine published a road test
article praising its credibility and attention to detail. It was
viewed as not just a kit car but a build that continued the Carroll
Shelby's incredible legacy.
This 1965 Shelby 427 S/C Cobra by E.R.A. was ordered new by Dr.
Burnette of Kalamazoo, Michigan. It is stamped E.R.A. No. 412 and
was factory finished in beautiful Midnight Blue in 1995. The 427
engine was sourced and professionally built in Texas. It is a
genuine FE Ford block that was delivered directly to the E.R.A.
factory to be installed in this Cobra. The original build featured
leather, heavy duty cooling fan, heat shields, powder coated
chassis, rack and pinion steering, bonded body floors and foot box,
seat tracks, glove box, ceramic coated black side pipes, aluminum
engine compartment, correct bent shifter, trunk mounted battery,
original-like Smith counter gauges, and pin-drive Halibrand Cobra
cast knock-off wheels. This Cobra also features four corner
independent suspension.SPAXcoil-over shocks and springs with
adjustable ride height, a professional built Jaguar racing
independent rear suspension with the Salisbury center section
identical to the one used in the original Cobra.
In 1997, Dr. Burnette had the engine professionally built up.
Here's what he had done: authentic 427 side oiler, bored the block
.01 over, displacement to 456ci/500-plus hp, upgraded pistons,
Malvix steel crank, Carroll Shelby autographed aluminum heads,
Competition cam with Ford performance roller rockers, Accusump
installed, MSD ignition, NASCAR connecting rods, Doug Nash 5-Speed
transmission, seamless double roller chain, triple index gear,
solid lifters, and fire suppression system. Dr. Burnette sold the
car in 2016 to our client. He recorded 2,974 miles in his original
ownership. The car now reads 4,822 miles since 1995. It has been
owned, stored, and driven with meticulous care. It comes with
everything in the photos: thick folder of receipts and build
information, books, manuals, car cover, soft top, and tonneau
cover.
E.R.A.gives the best of both worlds: a visually correct
reproduction combined with technological upgrades making the
driving experience even better than the originals. The chassis is
strengthened over the original design and stiffened to reduce body
shake. The upgraded suspension produces excellent handling and
smooth ride not available by other "replicas." You can find many
other Cobra kits out there, and with all of them, you get what you
pay for.However, E.R.A. is a no-budget, no-expense spared build
that will out-look and out-perform the lot. This 1965 Shelby Cobra
427 S/C by E.R.A No. 412 will not disappoint. It is near perfect
from top to bottom, and will continue to climb in value as builds
of this quality have become investment pieces. Be sure to check out
