Vehicle Description
The country was right in the middle of its bicentennial euphoria as
this eye-catching muscle car rolled out and, with its sharp looks
and dramatic low-slung design, this 1976 Pontiac Firebird Formula
350 is about as fitting a representative for that era as any you'll
come across. Its strong running condition makes it a great choice
for frequent driving and some recent attention has left it looking
good both inside and out.
Pontiac capitalized on the popularity of its first generation of
Firebirds by creating a more aerodynamic and lower profile sequel
reflected by this '76. Its Athena blue paint is the shade it
started off with and it strikes a great balance - it's attention
grabbing, but steers clear of the excess that marked a lot of mid
'70s color options - and is looking very strong here. Up front, the
hood carries a pair of low profile scoops that blend nicely into
the rest of the design and loom over the dual grille and twin
recesses in the air dam just below to create a nice effect. After
its more than four decades of service, this remains a very
well-aligned classic and as you take a lap around it, you'll
appreciate just how straight its body lines are and how the rear
spoiler still blends perfectly with the steel it's surrounded by.
The glass is nice and clear on all four sides and fresh rubber
lines both the doors and windows to keep the elements out of the
cabin.
Inside the doors, the black vinyl interior has been refurbished
while retaining its stock look, and with new padding and covers
installed in the buckets up front, the carpet re-dyed to freshen
its color and a fresh headliner above, it's a comfortable and
driving space you'll look forward to spending time in. The original
Trans Am-style steering wheel still sits in place, while just
beyond, the dash area is looking impressively strong - a welcome
sight with UV sensitive black upholstery. The pad across the top is
still straight and shows no cracking, the woodgrain insert
surrounding the instrument cluster looks fresh, and a trio of
aftermarket gauges have been added just in front of the shifter to
monitor engine functions. An AM/FM/cassette stereo stands by in the
dash to fill the cabin with sound via the pair of deck-mounted 6" x
9" speakers in back. The trunk area is in good order and carries a
stain-free liner on its floor.
This Pontiac's strong running condition is a definite plus - it's
ready to hit the road just as soon as you get it home. The original
350 cubic inch V8 still resides under the hood, armed with a
4-barrel Edelbrock carb for some added power, and is sounding very
healthy, breathing into the stock headers leading its dual exhaust
to emit a nice deep rumble that's not too overbearing. The engine
sits just in front of a 3-speed automatic transmission that's
shifting smooth and solid, and with power brakes at all four
corners - discs in front - as well as power steering, this GM
classic is very much suited for the demands of frequent driving as
it rides on a set of 15" B/G wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A
radials. A look below at the undercarriage will reinforce the
notion that this is a very solid, road-ready vintage cruiser.
Its inspired mid-'70s styling, fresh interior and rock-solid
running condition make this 1976 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 a
great addition to any classic car enthusiast's garage. Call
