General Motors was a bit ahead of the curve when it came to the
modern horsepower wars. In 2001 they were one of the first
manufacturers to come out with a throwback model to their humble
Corvette beginnings - The infamous Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Nearly
50 years since the story began with Zora Dontov creating the option
because of GM's ban on racing, Chevrolet unveiled their newest Z06
the first of its kind since 1963 that came packing a 385hp LS6 V8
and a killer look.
2 years later Chevrolet had bumped up the horsepower for its 2003
Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to 405hp thanks to a LS6 V8. All told, only
8,635 Z06s were built in 2003. This gorgeous yellow Z06 is one of
these rare cars.
Today, These C5 Z06's bring with it a ton of power and
maneuverability for a very affordable price tag. Keep in mind this
car left the factory with a 0-60mph time of 3.9 seconds! When the
C7 Z06 was unveiled it was advertised with a 0-60 of 2.95, but what
was lost there was the fact that it was an automatic transmission.
The manual did the same time in 3.2 seconds. 12 years later and
this '03 Z06 left the factory only .7 slower than a brand new
Z06.
Sitting today with under 50k miles, this Z06 is in great shape with
a few minor touches that give it a tasteful look. It starts with
the custom wire mesh grille in the front, powdercoated black and
yellow striped wheels with brand new Bridgestone rubber, and a
aftermarket front and rear spoiler, then slightly lowered using the
stock suspension, and finally a hurst short throw shifter that
makes it wildly fun to drive. Beyond that, this Z06 is stock, even
down to the original titanium exhaust. The sale also includes
complete service history from 2010 on that shows every time the
vehicle was serviced from an oil change and tires, to safety
inspections and emissions tests. Throughout its life this Z06 has
never been raced and clearly has had a pampered life.
The Z06 was set apart from the base thanks to the Z51 suspension as
standard equipment, new larger brakes with a new cooling vent for
the rear brakes. The vents are located on each side of the car in
front of the rear wheels. Z06 also included tires that were 1"
wider than the coupe and convertible. Because the tires are not EMT
(run-flat) they are 23 pounds lighter. This also added the
requirement for a jack and tire repair kit because there is no room
for a spare tire. The front and rear glass in the Z06 was made
thinner to reduce weight in the Z06. The exhaust system is
constructed of titanium to decrease weight, it was also redesigned
to increase flow and create a more aggressive sound. These two
weight saving measures removed 40 pounds from the car!
Inside and out this car impressed us! Don't miss your chance to own
not only a future collectible, but also a car that is an absolute
blast to drive and be enjoyed. Call today!
