Vehicle Description
A well-executed, high impact color scheme draped over a classic
muscle car is always going to be a recipe for curb appeal, but this
1968 Chevrolet Camaro has even more going for it than that. With
some serious power under the hood and several well-chosen
aftermarket upgrades, it provides a driving experience very much on
a par with its undeniable magnetism.
When this Chevy rolled off the assembly line, it was carrying a
fairly sedate Ermine white paint job, so it took a blend of
inspiration and craftsmanship to transform it into the ultra-bold
street machine it is today. Its black backdrop is nice and even,
and with a solid clearcoat sitting on top, has a strong shine. Get
up close and you won't find anything to diminish your enthusiasm,
but you will notice some great details. Those painted flames
extending back from the front end have very sharp edges and you can
even see some pearl in them that provides an almost 3D effect. The
aggressive hood scoop adds aftermarket cachet and really blends
well with the car's other features. There's plenty of fit and
finish on display to accompany this Camaro's high impact look -
it's well aligned from front to back and you'll find a new
windshield sitting up front, along with clean glass surrounding the
rest of the cabin. The badging has been deleted off the front
fenders to allow those flames to really stand out, but the
remaining chrome is securely in place - both bumpers are
unblemished and level, and some well-focused attention to the rest
of the trim can bring the rest of the exterior to top form.
The black vinyl interior has been refurbished while largely
retaining its factory configuration and it exudes some serious
vintage muscle car mojo. Both the front buckets and rear bench seat
show only very light usage and when you scan the rest of the cabin,
everything looks very clean. The door panels and quarter trim in
back appear to have been fairly recently installed, and a nice
expanse of black carpeting runs the length of the floor. Climb
inside and take hold of the custom SS-branded steering wheel and
you'll find the original gauges still easily readable in the
instrument cluster, joined by a tach mounted on the steering column
and a trio of aftermarket gauges sitting at the front of the center
console. In-dash vents are on both sides of the dash, and while
this classic doesn't currently feature air conditioning, it did at
one time and with the plumbing in place you'll be a step ahead
should you decide to add it back. Everything looks good in the
trunk area - clean fabric lines the floor and everything within
view looks solid.
The theme under the hood centers on exhilarating yet dependable
power. The 383 cubic inch stroked V8 sitting at the center of the
very clean engine compartment starts easily, packs serious punch
and teams with a rock-solid 3-speed automatic TH350 transmission.
There's a nice collection of Edelbrock components on hand - a sharp
looking air cleaner and valve covers enhance the powerplant's
appearance, and a 4-barrel carb and Performer intake take its power
game up a few notches. 4-wheel power disc brakes now sit at all
four corners for plenty of stopping power and with power steering
on board, this vintage Camaro is an easy navigator as it prowls the
asphalt on a set of 18" Eagle wheels - whose black color is a
perfect complement to the rest of the car - outfitted with Riken
tires.
