Vehicle Description
Here's one very distinctive open-air muscle car classic, and it's
got numbers-matching power sitting under its hood to boot. This
1968 Pontiac Firebird convertible is a great looking representative
of an iconic model you just don't see all that often, and a
skillful restoration has left it with both outstanding curb appeal
and a strong running condition.
With its bright red paint - definitely a big step up over its
original green shade as far as visual impact is concerned - this
vintage Pontiac is just flat out appealing, and you can't help but
smile when you see it. That pointed nose and split grille give it a
look that stands out from its muscle car counterparts of the era,
and if you take a lap around, you'll see that it's also a
well-aligned car - follow the curvature of the top of the front
fender as it transitions into the door and rear quarter panel and
you'll see a nice, uninterrupted contour. Up front, that one of a
kind Firebird grille, with its integrated front bumper, sits nice
and level and the trim and badging throughout is on point - the
emblems on its front fenders and tail are particularly sharp. As
compelling as open-air motoring is, for those times when the
weather just won't cooperate with your plans, the power black
canvas convertible top raises into place for protection without
issue.
The interior has been refurbished from scratch and has a very clean
stock appearance that works well with its bold red color. From all
appearances, the seating doesn't seem to have seen much action and
remains very fresh and well-padded and the door panels sit nice and
flush and show no discoloration from use. The center console
features a great looking burlwood-finished top that really makes it
stand out from the new carpet sitting underneath. Up front, you'll
find clear, functional gauges in the cluster, a straight dash pad
free of any splitting running the width of the cabin above, and
in-dash vents to the sides indicating that you'll have
factory-installed air conditioning at your disposal - a fairly rare
feature for a droptop back in the '60s. A Jensen AM/FM/CD player
stands by to attend to your audio needs while you're out on the
road.
Underneath the hood, the engine compartment remains in stock
configuration and is unusually clean - not a wire out of place, and
firewalls and inner fenders that are impressively free of grime.
The nicely detailed 350 cubic inch V8 sitting at the center has
been freshened up with skillfully applied silver paint that
provides a nice contrast to its black surroundings. The engine
starts up easily, sounds great as it sings into its Flowmaster
exhaust, and is mated with a 4-speed automatic 700r4 transmission
that provides a superior experience to its original counterpart -
we certainly have an abiding appreciation for stock components, but
when overdrive kicks in at highway speeds, seeing those RPMs drop
is always a welcome sight. This vintage Pontiac now sports power
disc brakes at all four corners to up its fade-resistant stopping
power and combine with power steering to make it very suitable for
frequent driving in modern conditions. It's a very sharp muscle car
classic that sits on a set of 14" stock wheels with PMD centers,
wrapped with Goodyear Integrity tires. The undercarriage is very
clean - solid floorpans and straight suspension and exhaust
components from front to back.
With its numbers matching power, magnetic exterior and
confidence-inspiring running condition, this 1968 Pontiac Firebird
convertible would be quite a score for any classic car enthusiast.
