Vehicle Description
1927 Austin 7 Chummy Tourer
Offered is the rarest of the rare early British Touring Cars.
Nicknamed the "Baby Austin," the 7 was considered a people's
economy car and was produced from 1922-1939 in the United Kingdom.
The Austin 7 was considerably smaller than the same period model T
produced in the United States. With a wheel base of just 6 feet 3
inches, the Chummy was power by a 747 cc 4-cylinder engine
producing 10.5 horsepower. A three-speed manual transmission was
integral to the engine and available in a variety of gear ratios.
It was also available in a variety of chassis.
Painted in the traditional British Racing Green with black leather
interior and black painted wire wheels, the offered Austin 7 is
well presented showing nicely and in great running condition. This
Tourer has the 747cc engine with a magneto ignition and a 3-speed
"crash" gear box. This example has been maintained and
preserved...not restored. The upholstery (except the carpet) as
well as the top irons and top are original, as are all the sheet
metal parts. The fenders are steel, and the body is aluminum over
ash. Records show this car to be the oldest Austin Seven in the
United States. Consistently displayed and driven at local special
events, the Chummy offers a rare opportunity to own an early piece
of British motoring history. Included is a traditional blanket from
Scotland and a picnic set!
