Vehicle Description
1955 Chevrolet Bel Air
Chevrolet was all new in 1955. It featured a beltline dip and
wrap-around windshield inspired by the Cadillac Eldorado,
Oldsmobile Fiesta, and Buick Skylark limited editions of 1953; the
eggcrate grille had been inspired by Ferrari and was one of Harley
Earl, the famous GM designer's favorite touches. The grille however
was not popular with the public, so the '56 version was broader,
brighter, and more conventional. Also new for Chevrolet was a 265ci
V8 engine, the first V8 ever for Chevrolet. It performed
beautifully, putting out 162 hp at 4400 rpm, or 180 hp at 4600 rpm
with Power-Pac (a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust). This
engine became the basis of all the great Chevy engines of the
immediate future. In the '56 Corvette it was bored to 283ci and
remained the best-known, best-loved engine of the period.
Everyone loves Tri-Five Chevrolet's. This Black hard top is as
straight as they come, and to top that off it has a beautiful red
and white interior (done in convertible style).
This car has no rust and has never had any body mounts or floor
pans replaced and the trunk and inner wheel wells have no rust
either. The power for this beauty comes from a completely rebuilt
1968 350 CI engine with approximately 300hp. It has a Crowler cam,
camel back heads and an Edelbrock intake and carburetor. The 700R4
automatic transmission moves the power to a 10- bolt rear from a
1968 Camaro. The brake system has an upgrade to power disc's up
front bolted to 2" dropped spindle's. Wide whites on stock wheels
with full 1955 wheel covers round out the package. According to the
owner, the whole drive train has only 3000 miles since rebuild.
