Vehicle Description
1973 Triumph TR6
"Queue the British Music" .... British racing green, boxy design,
tall tires, long bonnet, short square boot, rectangular rear
lighting, leather seats, a burl wood dash, Lucas electrics,
Stromberg carburetors and a zippy 6-cylinder engine, all go into
making the TR6, a true British Sportscar....."Needle Scratches off
the record sound"....
The consigner states his intentions were to craft a virtually stock
appearing TR6 that performs at insane levels, while delivering
exceptional reliability. The goal was to keep the original steering
geometry, firewall, and avoid weight changes. The net result was a
car that was actually lighter, and ridiculously fast, while
appearing a normal stock TR6 from the outside.
Exterior
A total soda blasting, then a trip to the body shop for all panels
and tub, gave the opportunity to grind and redo every weld, add
additional structural support to the frame and prevent any twist or
degradation due to the added horse power and suspension
modifications. At this time, a race car fabricator added a 6-point
roll cage that ties directly to the frame. All this work was coated
with POR15 known to be better at resisting rock and road debris
than traditional powder coating. The tub and body panels were then
coated with Rhino Liner for future rust protection as well as
awesome noise reduction. Final paint was Imola red...a BMW M3
color. Stainless-steel fasteners complete the assembly of the body
panels. Actual British DumDum was sourced, and seals were sealed
between the fenders, wings and tub. New rear lighting and upgraded
head lighting complete the exterior package.
Interior
The "True Custom" interior was handcrafted from tan Garret Aviation
leather covering the heated Miata seats with brown contrasting
piping edge, as well as tan Wilton carpeting with contrasting
binding lines the floor. Hawaiian Fiddleback Koa frame the original
layout of gauges but they too have been upgraded to AutoMeter
Instruments, and LED indicators. DynaMat was liberally applied
around doors so when they are closed, it sounds like a modern car
door closing.
Drivetrain
A 6-cylinder BMW S50 M3 powerplant with minimal engine mods (8.5lb
aluminum flywheel, HD clutch, Intake, custom chip and a 7000rpm
limiter) powers this British rocket. The BMW 5-speed transmission,
tuned suspension for proper geometry and a quick ratio steering
rack make this cat handle and perform like a dream. Stopping power
is provided by Toyota's 4-Runner piston calipers mated with Toyota
Cressida vented calipers in the front, and the rear are race
approved Wildwood Aluminum Calipers, which clamp on 280ZX rotors
which are completed with bias adjusting brakes with stainless steel
brake lines. Nissan/Infinity provides the rear differential,
R200/230 to be exact, race designed rear axles with CV joints to
take the extra power the engine will throw at them.
Documentation and Extras
A complete 5-page compilation describing every source, process, and
part installed in this body-off nut and bolt restoration
As any Triumph TR6 aficionado knows, original cars had their
issues. With this fabulously thought out rebuild, no stone was left
unturned, no expense spared, no engineering system short cut.
Exterior shows a truly original 1973 TR6, however the rest of the
car is made to be street legal, as well as racing ready, without
the day to day worries the original car would certainly bring. You
need to test drive this car to truly appreciate it, as from the
outside the casual viewer would have no idea the work that went
into the various systems to create a reliable, updated, rocket
ship, that is very safe.
