For Sale: 1972 Ferrari 365 GT4 in Auburn Hills , Michigan

Vehicle Description

1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4
S/N 15873
Rosso Bordeaux (Dark Red) with Tan Leather Interior

When introduced, the 365 GTC/4 was Ferrari’s top of the line model, a sort of gentleman’s express that brought the performance and experience of the 12-cylinder front-engined cars with a degree of comfort and refinement that made the car more usable. With a comfortable, relaxed seating position, more interior space, functional air conditioning, and power steering, the 365 GTC/4 achieves a pleasant balance between a thoroughbred sports car and a luxury grand touring car, and is considerably less exhausting to drive than the 365 GTB/4″Daytona” produced during the same period. The 365 GTC/4 is the most mechanically sophisticated and highest performance of the classic 2+2 Ferraris, and has enjoyed considerable appreciation in recent years. Only 505 of these special Ferrari’s were produced in their short production run. The cars’ amazing performance is complemented by an incredible exhaust note that is considered the best of any street Ferrari.

This beautiful example has been very well cared for and treasured by its owners. Its odometer shows only 51,000km (31,800 miles) and is believed to be accurate. Its ownership and history is known from new and can be supplied upon request. The car remained in the warm, dry climate of California until 2006 when it was sold to Wayne Oldenburg of Wisconsin. Subsequently,  the current owner purchased it from the Wayne Oldenburg Collection and brought it here to Michigan. Delivered from the factory in the colors of Morrone Colorado with Tan interior, it received a color change to its current color of Rosso Bordeaux while being restored and in the early 1980s.

The car runs and drives superbly. The engine (which is original to the car) idles smoothly and pulls the car vigorously through every gear. The transmission shifts precisely and properly. The clutch was replaced last year due to contamination from a leaky oil seal that was also corrected. At the same time, various other minor services were performed and the engine had a compression / leak down test which confirmed that the engine was sound.

The body is excellent, with no signs of rust or corrosion. Body panels are straight and smooth and the gaps are even with very good fit. The paint is very good, especially considering it was refreshed 35 years ago. There are some touched up nicks and chips from use over the years but nothing offensive. The interior leather also presents nicely. It benefited from a re-dye in the original color within the last couple years. The mouse hair has been properly replaced on the dash board and console. It was sourced from a company in the Netherlands who procured the original equipment that produced the mouse hair material new for Ferrari. It looks fantastic.

Other recent improvements include: Wire wheels refurbished, Load leveling rear shocks replaced with Koni adjustable shocks, New ANSA (Original Equipment) exhaust installed, Power brake booster rebuilt, 5 new tires and Rear brake hose replacement. In addition, the car has the owners manual, parts manual, pouch for the manuals, hex wrench for the wheels, knock-off hammer, jack and pouch.

Overall, this is an excellent, low mileage example of a rare 12 cylinder Ferrari that is ready for its new caretaker to use and enjoy as these cars were intended.
