1978 International Harvester Scout II in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

The Scout was an off-road vehicle produced by International Harvester from 1961 to 1980. The market potential for a four-wheel drive recreational vehicle was an unknown quantity in the early post-war years and International took a gamble that this segment would expand by introducing the rugged Scout model. A precursor of more sophisticated SUVs to come, it was created as a direct competitor to the successful civilian Jeeps on the road. The Scout and second-generation Scout II were produced in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as two-door trucks with a removable hard top with options of a full-length roof, half-cab pickup, and/or soft top. This Scout is a southern vehicle that was delivered to its new owner on October, 25, 1978 in Hickory, North Carolina and looks to have spent its entire life in the state. The original owner had the off-roader for twenty years then passed it on to its second owner who also possessed the truck for nearly two decades. In excellent restored condition the Scout is finished in a shiny green paint with white Rallye striping. Included is the body color removable hardtop as well as the complete set of original wheels, with tires, along with the factory hubcaps. Under the reverse-opening hood is the durable 196 cubic-inch four cylinder mated to a smooth shifting 4-speed manual transmission. The Scout rides on glossy white Tracker wheels mounted to an aggressive set of B.F. Goodrich All-Terrain T/A radials. Inside the cabin is all business with cloth bucket seats, vinyl flooring and an abundance of interior space. International Scout IIs' in this condition are a rare find. Don't miss your chance to own this rugged off-roader that runs just as good as it looks!
