Vehicle Description
It may have been a late entry into the muscle car wars that had
begun in earnest about a half decade before its release, but its
impact made the wait worthwhile. This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
Tribute is a fine example of MoPar's vintage automotive design and
engineering skills, and it's been ably configured as the
Challenger's potent, performance-centric version, so it's not only
awesome to behold, but a blast to drive, as well.
As the '70s began, muscle cars were becoming more expansive and
better equipped - the car buying public had no intention of giving
up their infatuation with performance, but they also wanted the
smoother ride and greater interior room offered by the passenger
cars of the time. This Challenger is a fitting reflection of that
change. It's a substantial car - broad, with a long hood - but so
well configured that it presents a very agile appearance. This '70
with its clean white painted contrasted by black striping on its
hood and tail, is a very sharp specimen that shows just how
effective Dodge's planning turned out. Everything is clicking here
- the paint is in very nice condition, the array of chrome front to
back is looking good and the badging on its front fenders is
particularly vibrant. While the standard Challenger hood was fairly
flat, you'll find the upgraded "power bulge" hood on display here,
complete with a pair of trim scoops and hood pins.
The black vinyl interior has been refurbished while retaining its
original configuration and is in great shape. The high-backed front
buckets have a nearly new look to them, with no real signs of usage
and that firm yet comfortable look that comes with having borne the
weight of very few passengers. You'll see one of the most obvious
by-products of the Challenger's generous wheelbase inside - there's
plenty of space everywhere you look, and even taller passengers
will have no trouble getting comfortable in back. Those finishing
touches that make a classic interior look complete have been looked
after, as well - the door panels look very fresh, as do the
headliner and the interior chrome fittings, and every woodgrain
insert is very well applied. A column mounted tach, one of the only
variations on this interior's stock theme, stands by to monitor
revs, and an AM/FM/CD player takes its place in the dash to provide
your audio options while you're on the road. All appears well in
the trunk area and there's plenty of space to accommodate any
luggage needed for a proper road trip.
Because its inspiration was Dodge's high-performance rendition of
the Challenger, it's only fitting this R/T tribute be equipped with
plenty of go-power. And it is. A sizable 440-cubic inch V8, armed
with an Edelbrock carb whose electric choke really comes in handy
in cold weather, sits within the very clean walls of the engine
bay, surrounded by fresh looking hoses and not a wire out of place.
It's painted a very fitting Dodge orange and is paired with a rock
solid 3-speed automatic transmission to make for a low-effort, high
potency drive train. An aluminum radiator sits up front to keep
temperatures in check. The undercarriage is in very good order,
with solid floor pans and clean-looking suspension components
everywhere you look. 4-wheel power brakes, combined with power
steering, provide plenty of stopping power and easy navigation as
this great looking Dodge classic takes to the road on its 15" stock
rims outfitted with BF Goodrich T/A radials.
This 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Tribute is a very skillful
recreation of the upscale Challenger model of its era and would be
an outstanding acquisition for any MoPar enthusiast. Call
