Vehicle Description
880 actual miles!! After close inspection, this Pace Car is what it
is claimed to be. Has original window sticker, build sheet and
manual.
EXTERIOR: It looks like one of the best preserved originals I've
seen. Even with low miles I have seen them with damage, cracks and
touch ups. Stand next to this car, the paint looks new. GM did a
fantastic job picking the color combination, the black- silver with
red accents is awesome. The owner of this car also chose the
optional pace car decals. The wheels are still bright. Actually the
tires are the originals! The glass tops are excellent. The decals
and stripes are in mint condition, not nicked up. Glass is crystal
clear, rubber is still soft.
INTERIOR: It looks like the cockpit of a spaceship! The light color
carpet is prone to staining but it's in excellent shape. The vents,
knobs, console are all excellent. The ashtray still shines. Leather
grip steering wheel is pristine. Inside this car looks practically
new, it's really nice. Has the t-top bags, jack is stowed in its
compartment.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Optional L-82 performance engine, added a hefty
$550. Very well preserved original. We made sure not to spray paint
anything. It is as it left the factory: Has smog pump, proper air
ducts and tubes, finned valve covers.
UNDERSIDE: Just like the engine compartment we left it original.
There are still assembly line crayon markings and tags.
FUNCTION: To my pleasant surprise this car functions like new.
Everything still works except the clock. (Actually the clock
is,right twice a day!) Air is cold, brake pedal is firm, lights
open, power antenna works. We drove it and even on the original
tires it felt great.
HISTORY: In 1978 the Corvette Special Edition was honored at the
Indy 500 as the Pace Car. Only 1 per dealer were offered to the
public. There was a buyer's frenzy. While the standard Corvette
sold for around $9,500, the Pace Car's list price was 47% higher at
$13,653. But guess what, these cars were selling at way over
sticker price, as high as $50,000! Dealers found themselves in
court because they didn't want to honor contracts at sticker price
when they could sell them for double. These cars were so highly
collectible that some people tucked them away. That is why this car
is in such great shape, it was intentionally carefully put away for
future investment.
Over the years we have sold several very low mile Pace Car
Corvettes and this one is one of the best!
