Vehicle Description
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle
Touting new styling and a range of performance options, the 1966
Chevelle remained the viable choice for many. It still included the
previous four models and offered up big new looks with a broad new
grille and bumper, a more raked roofline, chrome accents and a
curved side window. The Malibu Super Sport simply became known as
the SS 396. The two simulated hood scoops that the SS 396 would
become known for was introduced this year.
The 300 and 300 Deluxe remained relatively unchanged in their
bare-bone offerings. The Deluxe did offer different interior color
and more expressive trim. Both offered a 2- and 4-door sedan, while
the Deluxe had the added option of a 4-door wagon.
The Malibu continued its reign as the leading seller of the
Chevelle because it boasted the highest number of model options
with the 4-door sport sedan, 2-door sport coupe, convertible,
4-door sedan, and 2-seat station wagon.
The SS 396 was named so to take advantage of the emerging muscle
car market. The SS could be had with a 325hp V8 or a modded 396ci
sporting 360hp. It also included the most luxurious standard
interior options, was well as other features such as dual exhaust,
sport wheel covers, tachometer, and two simulated hood scoops.
The SS also had a third engine option not marketed by GM, the L78
396 that boasted 375hp. It grew in popularity as the year went
on.
If you like first generation Chevelle's, then you really must take
a close look at this one. This 1966 is loaded with the best of
everything...from a 454ci big block V8 engine and a Richmond 5-
speed manual transmission with 12 bolt rear-end. Exhaust gases flow
through headers to 3" stainless pipes and mufflers. This car also
features CPP front and rear suspension components and CPP disc
brakes at all four wheels. It rolls on 18" front and 20" rear Foose
chrome wheels. The stunning charcoal and black paint scheme is set
off by the rich charcoal custom leather interior. The dash was
filled and smoothed and a full set of Stewart Warner gauges monitor
the engine. A center console was added and for your tunes you have
a Kenwood stereo and CD player.
