1979 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible
The Volkswagen Beetle, officially the Volkswagen Type 1 is a two-door, five-passenger, rear-engine economy car that was manufactured and marketed by German automaker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003.
The first Volkswagen was one of the first rear-engined cars since the Brass Era. The Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single platform ever made.
The Volkswagen Beetle is arguably the most legendary automobile of all time, and the 1979 Beetle Convertible we have at Classic Vintage Exchange is likely the most desirable example of this wonderful machine.
It is finished in highly desirable Mars Red with black interior and black Convertible top, nice chrome trim, good bumpers and lights, and window glass. It has been well maintained and modified and is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.
The Volkswagen Beetle Convertible was given special treatment, with a much modified VW engine flat-four, paired to a 4-speed manual transaxle and that producing 48 horsepower when new, and a lot more now. Look at the pictures and you will see that the engine now has performance parts like the twin carbs, modified ignition, degree wheel on the crank pulley, exhaust, dual chrome air cleaners, and more.
Vw Motor is now a 1915 mm with 2000 miles after rebuild. New duel Weber 44s. New disk brake conversion kit. New front end struts and shocks. New sway bar tie rod ends and bushings.new tires. New seat shocks. New interior. New roof and boot.
The folding top is as tight and quiet as the sedan thanks to its thick "sandwich" top construction and glass rear window. Values of the last convertibles have been very strong, making this car an attractive long term investment.
The black bucket seat interior is nice with a padded steering wheel, nice door panels, wood grain inserts in the dash, gauge package, floor shifter, and more. Our Beetle rides on black painted 4-spoke mag wheels with black wall tires and is a car that is a detailed rolling collection of VW part numbers.
We also have a huge folder full of receipts on parts and work on this VW including the high performance engine build. And we have the original Owners Manual and Warranty Card.
The 1979 Volkswagen Beetle we have at Classic Vintage Exchange is a great little VW to drive and have fun in, especially with its modified motor and convertible top. It was the last year for the Beetle convertible and will prove out to be a great VW to collect too.
