Vehicle Description
After more than a half century of service, this 1966 Chevrolet
Corvette is looking and running great. It's benefited from long
term ownership and comes with an extensive collection of photos and
receipts to document its stellar life and condition. Even better,
it features it's original matching numbers L79 engine.
Its Ermine white color is in fact the correct factory shade it came
with and with the bonding strips still visible, not only has it
more than held its own with the passage of time, it still looks
pretty darned good, too. This lightweight vintage performance
machine it's draped over is plenty impressive as well, with doors
that still open and shut easily and headlights that still rise into
position without complaint when called upon. There's fresh chrome
everywhere you look - on both its front and rear bumpers, the
headlight and taillight casings and surrounding its windshield -
and that adds an even greater element of vitality, as does its
consistently sharp badging, which is especially effective against
the white backdrop. Should the skies above you turn dark while
you're out enjoying yourself on the road, you'll have a couple of
options to protect you - a white vinyl convertible top that's in
great shape and still sports a clear plastic window in back, or a
very well-fitted white accessory hard top.
By the time the mid-'60s rolled around, Chevy was really creating
some outstanding, driver-centric cockpits for its Corvettes, and
this one stands as proof. The interior remains in its original
configuration and appears especially fresh. The rally-inspired,
black vinyl buckets have all the comfort you'd want for even longer
journeys and you won't find any splits or evidence of wear on them.
One of Chevy's most inspired works of the era is on display via the
dash area sitting just beyond the stock Corvette steering wheel.
Its aeronautic, double cove configuration was no doubt one of the
coolest of its time - the array of gauges in the instrument cluster
remain perfectly readable, the bezels surrounding them are all
unusually clean, and the black dash pad running over the top shows
no splits - which makes it all the cooler. In the center, just
above the chrome shifter and vertically mounted AM/FM radio sits a
generously sized analogue clock, and it still works!
There's a L79 327 cubic inch V8 sitting under the hood with a
4-barrel carb on top, and it represents another stellar Chevrolet
achievement of the era: the design of a naturally aspirated engine
putting out well over one horsepower per cubic inch - 350, to be
exact. It's only logged light usage since its rebuild, so it's in
top form and ready to provide plenty more memories on the road.
Combine this 'Vette's light weight with its 4.11 posi rear end, and
you have yourself a serious screamer off the line. An upgraded
radiator and modern wiring certainly increase its dependability
factor, and disc brakes at all four corners provide the
fade-resistant stopping power to go along with all that
acceleration prowess. This ultra-sharp American sports car sits on
a set of 15" stock Corvette rims outfitted with Coker Classic tires
with plenty of tread left.
Classic Corvettes in this condition are hard enough to come by, and
this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette - well documented and looking and
running great - represents a truly seldom-encountered opportunity.
