1977 Chevrolet Corvette
History
The Chevrolet Corvette (C3) was a sports car that was produced by
Chevrolet for the 1968 through 1982 model years. Engines and
chassis components were mostly carried over from the previous
generation, but the body and interior were new.
Why Is This Car Special
The 1977 Chevrolet Corvette we have here at Skyway Classics is a
real head turner with its bright gloss orange paint and black
interior. The "Stingray" script, seen on front fenders since 1969
disappeared that year but new cross-flags emblems showed up on the
77.
Mechanical
The stock engine for the 77 had an unchanged horsepower ratings for
both base and L-82 engines, but you won't have to worry about that
because the engine in this Corvette has had a host of different
things done to it and performance parts added.
To start off with you will notice the performance air cleaner,
custom valve covers, aluminum intake and performance carb, headers,
modified electronics and distributer, performance fuel system,
braided hoses, Milodon oil pan, and much more.
All the gases go out the rear via a dual exhaust system. The
Corvette rides on correct factory mag wheels with Cooper Cobra
tires, And Corvette's refinement as a touring sports car uses both
power steering and power brakes.
Interior
1977 saw the steering column repositioned 2 inches closer to the
dashboard to allow a more "arms out" position for the driver. The
custom black interior with leather seat trim has a redesigned
center console permitted universal Delco radio options.
Auxiliary gauges were restyled and the ammeter was replaced with a
voltmeter. The sun visors were redesigned to swivel so as to provide
some glare protection from the side as well as the front.
Chevrolet responded to the criticism of the previous year's
steering wheel with an all new three-spoke leather-wrapped unit,
which our Corvette has as well as it is fitted with the optional
tilt-telescopic steering column.
Exterior
As stated earlier, the bright orange paint makes this Corvette an
attention getter. It has several features
That made it different for 1977 like Windshield posts were now
painted black for a "thin pillar" look and this was the final year
of the "sugar scoop" tunneled roof-line and vertical back window. A
Corvette milestone was reached during 1977 as Chevrolet had built a
half million Corvettes since production began in 1953.
It also has the convenience group including dome light delay,
headlight warning buzzer, underhood light, low fuel warning light,
interior courtesy lights, and passenger side visor mirror.
Conclusion
The 1977 Chevrolet Corvette we have at Skyway Classics will be an
attention getter wherever you drive it to and will have the
additional power and great handling to challenge you as a driver to
drive it as it should be driven.
