Vehicle Description
After building nearly 15 million Model Ts, Henry Ford introduced
the Model A for the 1928 model year. Initially labeled The New
Ford, it was soon renamed the Model A. It was instantly successful
and, like the Model T, became popular worldwide. Model As are
generally broken down into two groups, the early cars built during
1928 and 1929, and the later cars built in 1930 and 1931. The 1930
and 1931 models are typically the most sought after by today's
collectors. This 1930 Model A Ford Deluxe Coupe is the recipient of
a recent, professional restoration and has been driven about 20
careful miles since being completed. It has been maintained and
displayed in the museum-like environment of a local collector for
the past several years. It is in like new condition inside and out.
This example is a true, deluxe coupe and differentiates itself from
the more commonly seen standard coupe by its roll down rear window,
wood grained garnish moldings, mohair interior, front carpet and
cowl lights. In addition to these standard features, this car is
also well equipped with several period and factory accessories
including a rumble seat, dual side mounted spare tires with
polished metal covers, dual tail lights, a rear mounted luggage
rack, wind wings, a radiator stone guard, a flying quail radiator
cap, running board steps plates and whitewall tires. The exterior
is finished in the period correct Model A colors of Chickle Drab
and Cobra drab with black fenders. The straw color wheels are a
factory option as is the matching pin stripe. The paint on this
car isexcellent and shows hardly any signs of aging or wear. The
overall fit and finish on this car is superb throughout. The doors
and rumble seat lid open and close properly with even gaps and
margins throughout. The hood aligns properly with the cowl and
radiator shell. The bodylines are crisp and clear. All four, steel
fenders have clearly defined bead lines and have been properly
fitted to the body and frame. The running boards have been
correctly re-covered and show no wear. On the inside, the deluxe
mohair interior was replaced at the time of restoration and still
looks like new. The seat assembly, door panels, headliner and
carpet show no signs of wear or discoloration. The rumble seat area
was likely never used and still looks like new. All of the glass
was replaced and also remains new. The stainless steel radiator
shell, headlamps, tail lamps, cowl lights, cowl band and hubcaps
are correct and have been restored to exacting standards. The
chrome bumpers were correctly re-plated and still look like new.
Under the hood, the engine bay is extremely clean and well
detailed. The engine has its correct Zenith carburetor and engine
pans. Underneath, the chassis has been fully restored and remains
extremely clean. The white wall tires still appear new.
Mechanically, this Model A runs and drives properly. It starts
easily, idles with that well-known Model A sound. The engine makes
plenty of power and easily propels the car down the road. The
steering and brakes are tight and responsive. The transmission is
smooth and easy to shift. The lights, horn and gauges all work as
they should. When you drive this car, it becomes evident it was
properly restored by someone who understands Model A Fords. It has
been said time and time again that the Model A Ford is the backbone
of the vintage car hobby. Simply put, these are great cars. Model
As are easy to drive and simple to maintain. They can be reliably
driven virtually anywhere. This well restored and highly optioned
1930 Model A Deluxe coupe is ready for fun and enjoyment by its
