There is a lot you can say about the 1991 GMC Syclone. It is exceptionally rare, with only 2,995 models produced in its single year of production. There was the powerful but compact turbocharged 4.3L V6. The all-wheel drive system was the template for many systems that followed, car and truck alike. It was the first pickup with 4-wheel ABS. And of course the Syclone remains one of the fastest trucks of all time, capable of 0-60 mph in a stunning 4.6 seconds.
While these things make for a very collectible truck, this particular example is made even more so by its amazing original condition and incredibly low 7,200 miles! It is accident-free with its original paint, cladding, and interior. It doesn’t appear that anything was ever placed in the bed of this truck. The wheels are the unique aluminum pieces that often go missing. It even has its original 50-series Firestone Firehawk SVX tires, which were produced specifically for the Syclone.
The drivetrain is original as well, and without any modifications. The legendary 4.3L motor produces 280 hp and a hefty 350 lb-ft of torque, due in large part to the Mitsubishi turbocharger and Garrett intercooler. The factory 700R4 (4L60) automatic transmission feeds the Borg Warner transfer case that splits torque 35% front / 65% rear. Note all Syclones had a 3.42 axle ratio with Positraction. There is also the sport tuned suspension and 4-wheel anti-lock brakes. While much of this seems commonplace today, it was revolutionary on a 1991 pickup.
The interior looks just as you’d expect from a 7k mile pickup. The seats, carpet, headliner, and dash all look great. Even the GM plastic pieces are holding up well. Everything functions properly, including the power windows, power locks, and cruise control. All owner manuals are present in the factory binder along with two sets of keys. There is also a Prestige alarm system from the 1990s.
The Syclone has been in high demand recently, and rightly so. It is a rare truck that was a technological tour de force. And while there are always a few Syclones on the market, very few can match this example’s low miles and outstanding condition. Those are great attributes for any used truck, but when you’re talking about a Syclone it becomes something very special indeed.
