Vehicle Description
Holy grail of Camaro's, right here. This is a certified, documented
original Z-28 with its original born with drivetrain. Only 602 made
total and this one has the highly desirable Rally Sport package,
deluxe interior and fantastic color combo!
The Story: The Z-28 came about as a means to make a competitive
SCCA Trans-am race car. The biggest cubic inch allowed was 305, so
Chevy built a 302 and pushed it to the max. Key components feature
11:1 forged pistons, high lift solid lifter cam, aluminum high rise
intake, 800 CFM Holley double pumper and big valve heads. This
engine can be pushed to 7000 RPMs. Rated at 290 hp but actually
weighs in at 350 hp on a dyno. Of course suspension and handling
was also upgraded. It was the only Camaro with 15 inch wheels. You
could not order a/c or an automatic. The rules say 1,000 cars must
be made available to the public, somehow GM managed to get away
with only making 602! That makes the 67 Z one of the rarest, most
collectable Camaros of all time.
PROVENANCE: This Z is very possibly a 1 of 1 as optioned and
arguably the most desirable in existence. It has been certified by
the Camaro Guru Jerry MacNeish as being real and having it's born
with drivetrain. It is not a replacement engine or a restamp. His
report is very favorable in regards to condition and authenticity
throughout. The car is also #42 in the registry. It includes it's
original protect-o-plate too. A list of the codes and #s have been
compiled, from the radiator to the rear end.
EXTERIOR: It had a proper body off the frame restoration in 2010.
The body is laser straight with excellent fit. The paint has a
glass finish throughout. Upon close inspection there are some age
cracks. The stripes are correctly painted. All of the trim, rubber,
chrome, moldings, glass are excellent. Notice that there are no
Z-28 emblems, that is how the early cars were. Has correct
reproduction redline tires on 15 inch restored wheels. Has correct
antenna. The headlight doors fit nice and operate quickly. Has
optional bumper guards. The vinyl top is pristine. The Rally Sport
includes hideaway headlights, relocated reverse lights lights, wide
rocker moldings and pin stripe.
INTERIOR: The bright blue deluxe interior really pops! From carpet
to headliner it looks new. It features optional console, gauge and
tachometer package, tilt deluxe wheel and floormats. It is very
detailed. Has proper Muncie shifter and ball, proper plastic slider
plate.
MOTOR COMPARTMENT: It is detailed like it left the factory. Correct
valve covers, pulleys, battery, cables etc.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Clean metal with a nice coat of spatter paint.
Has original rally rim, redline tire and correct jack. Includes
mat.
UNDERSIDE: It is detailed like it left the factory. Has spiral
shocks. Gas tank, metal lines, parking brake cables are clean.
Trans has proper orange overspray. The metal floors are mint. Has
original 3.73 posi rear.
MECHANICALS: The car functions like new. Motor runs exactly like it
should. The 4-speed shifts fine. Front end was rebuilt. Has
stainless exhaust.
CONCLUSION: This is a blue chip investment. It has everything going
for it- highly desirable, extreme rarity, indisputably certified
and is high quality.
The first "muscle car" we ever sold was a white 1967 Z-28 back
around 1980 for around $3,000! It will continue to climb in value
and meanwhile give so some pretty big bragging rights!
