Vehicle Description
Very hard to find 1970 Pontiac GTO convertible representing oneof
only 3,783 produced for 1970! Highly optioned with air
conditioning, power windows, power disc brakes, power steering,
Rally gauges, Rally II wheels, Safe-T-Track differential, and all
number's matching drivetrain! Awesome example! The muscle car
market was already starting to feel the pressure of raising fuel
and insurance costs by 1970, so sales at most manufactures started
to decline. At Pontiac, the GTO continued to lead the way for the
performance savvy buyer and was again revised for its 7th year with
a revised front end highlighting the four exposed individual
headlamps, still wrapped inside the Endura urethane bumper. New
stiffer front anti-sway bar, and addition of a rear sway bar,
enhanced the cornering capabilities along with new variable-ratio
power steering giving further ease to steering along with a shorter
turning radius. A new taillight design and enhanced body profile,
several new available engines with high horsepower output, and
abundant options allowed buyers to personalize their GTO anyway you
preferred! Overall GTO production crested at 40,149 units and once
again, they proved to be dominant both on the strip and at stop
lights! The rarest are the limited production 3,783 convertibles
built! Very hard to find exceptional example today! Offered here is
a 1970 Pontiac GTO Convertible finished in Mint Turquoise over
White interior and matching White convertible top. Powered by its
original, number's matching 400ci/350hp V8-4bbl engine &
console-shifted Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission, power
front disc brakes, power steering, factory air conditioning, Rally
Instrumentation, Rally II wheels fitted with Goodyear Eagle ST
radials, Safe-T-Track 3.23 rear axle, Deluxe steering wheel, dual
outside mirrors, power folding top, Dcor Group, all Soft-Ray
tinted glass, power windows, rubber floor mats, and Stereo radio!
This example delivered new from Kahn Motors, Inc. located in
Englewood, NJ on May 5th, 1970 as a late production unit. Records
provided with our car start with owners, Ron & Norma Rogers,
located in Warrenton, MO. They located this exceptionally solid car
in Georgia the spring of 1997 showcasing what appears to be all
original sheet metal & floors (exception to driver's side lower
quarter panel was replaced), and then performed a beautiful
mechanical & cosmetic restoration soon afterward. Sadly, with the
passing of Roger, the car has sat for a number years parked
alongside their 1965 GTO Tri-power Hardtop, 1966 GTO convertible,
and an unfinished 1969 GTO Judge hardtop. Upon acquisition by the
St. Louis Car Museum, we completely serviced the car to ensure it
was properly prepared for road use again. This included new engine
fluids & filters, fresh battery, all new ignition system (plugs,
plug wires, distributor & rotor, condenser & points), rebuilt
carburetor, flushed fuel system, front brake hoses, valve cover
gaskets, new brake master cylinder & fresh brake fluid, and front
suspension center link. Inside, we replaced the interior carpeting
for new, replaced the top & A-pillar weather stripping, converted
the air conditioning system to R134a to operational order,
installed new blower motor relay & switch, new rear trunk mat &
spare tire cover, along with a few other cosmetic details. Back on
the road for the first time in years, we truly could not be more
pleased with the overall performance! All aspects of this 1970
Pontiac GTO are remarkably tight, with smooth performance from the
engine and transmission. It remains all number's matching with
correct VIN-stamped block, transmission, original intake, factory
issued Quadrajet carburetor, heads, exhaust manifolds, etc.
Included with car will be all PHS documentation, complete spare
tire with tools, and two sets of keys. Please feel free to call
with additional questions or to schedule a chance to review in
person! A limited production example, and nice to find in such
original condition! Act quickly on this one!
