Widely considered the "original" Austin-Healey, the "Healey
Hundred" Series cars were built from 1953 to 1956. The big four
engine gave the Austin-Healey 100/4 two-thirds more power than its
MG contemporary and 120% more torque, all in a streamlined and
better balanced package, that weighed no more than the MG. Built
mostly for the important American market where they fit neatly into
the gap between Triumph's TR2 and the larger and more expensive
Jaguar XK120 and XK140 models. A true two-seat roadster, with a
purity of line and sense of purpose that has made them quite sought
after by enthusiasts of British sports cars, accentuated by a
rakish fold-down windscreen.
BN1-L/150976 was completed on January 20, 1954 and is said to have
been purchased new by a U.S. Serviceman in Belgium, through Sogid
Autos of Brussels. The Big Healey was delivered wearing carmine Red
over Black upholstery and wire wheels, kph speedometer, heater and
H4 carburetors - as confirmed by British Motor Industry Heritage
Trust. This stunning BN1 was the recipient of a comprehensive
restoration to outstanding results and beautiful presentation.
Every single nut, bolt and wire were addressed and refreshed to new
during the rotisserie restoration, as was the paint, tailored cabin
and weather equipment. Today, the car displays lovely, maintained
finishes with light use, well suited for continued show display, as
well as eligible entry into nearly any significant vintage
automotive rally worldwide.
The Roadster's engine bay, undercarriage and luggage compartments
present just as nicely as its outward appearance. A stunning engine
bay reveals the numbers-matching powerplant with correct
appearances throughout the unit and auxiliaries, both highly
detailed. Same for the polished undercarriage with no feature
overlooked. A matching spare tire assembly with leather strap,
original jack, Thor hammer and emergency equipment reside neatly
inside the trunk, along with plexi side curtains in protective
pouch and a full-cab tonneau cover, while not in use. To complete
the ensemble, a set of Lucas LR6 lamps occupy the front badge bar -
and for the occupants, an authentic period racing helmet, new
leather gloves and vintage motoring blanket for the passenger.
A spring 2018 scheduled service and inspection was recently
performed on the Healey with outstanding results. Electric
overdrive on the BN1 3-speed is a welcomed addition during distance
touring. Additionally, the 100-4 received a complete set (5) of all
new Michelin XAS tires and tubes. A truly versatile and slightly
menacing instrument for nearly any vintage automotive event, this
particular 1954 Austin-Healey 100-4 BN1 offers many possibilities
to its next caretaker and is now available for worldwide purchase
and delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
