Vehicle Description
History
The 1955 Chevrolet or '55 Chevy, is an automobile that was made by
Chevrolet in 1955. It is considered a huge turning point for the
manufacturer and a major success. It was available in three models:
the 150, 210, and Bel Air.
The '55 Chevy was the first successful Chevrolet with an optional
V8 engine. In 1955, Chevrolet decided to fit its new car with an
overhead valve V8 engine design, which was similar to the 1949
Oldsmobile "Rocket 88" V8 engine. The new 265-cubic-inch overhead
valve V8 was designed to be smaller, lighter, and more powerful
than previous V8s in the auto industry.
Why This Car Is Special
The pretty yellow and white 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air we have at
Skyway Classics has the classic look and feel as it did back when
it was new. It has new paint and has been restored but it still has
that as new look and feel. It should because it is painted
yellow/white and the original color green interior too.
Mechanical Specs
The Turbo Fire V8 Passenger 265 engine in this 55 is the original
(see the photo of the engine stamping number on the motor) in the
very clean and authentic engine compartment. It made 162 horse @
4400 RPM 137 ft/lb of torque @ 4000 RPM with its two-barrel carb.
It still runs the correct factory oil filled air cleaner assembly ,
distributer, cast iron intake and exhaust manifold, and more. The
tranny is the correct Power Glide and the exhaust is a single which
exits the rear as stock.
Interior
As stated earlier, the interior is as a time capsule with its aqua
painted dash with aluminum trim, aqua painted steering wheel with
rim blow horn, correct door panels and carpet, seatbelts, and
headliner. This 55 is as original as you will find.
Exterior
The yellow/white paint combination is great looking as well as very
nice. The front and rear chrome bumpers are nice as is all the
trim. The 55 rides on wide whitewall tires and painted wheels with
the correct 1955 Chevy hubcaps too. All of the suspension and
running components of this Bel Air has been replaced and improved
to make it ride as great as it looks.
Conclusion
The 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air we have at Skyway Classics has the look
as it did in 1955. It is great to look at, great mechanicals, and a
blast to take to shows and cruises. Come see it today.
