1948 Chevrolet 5-Window Pickup
Chevrolet broke away from prewar truck styling with its 1947
models. Marketed as the Advanced Design trucks, Chevy placed an
emphasis on cab comfort and safety. For the 1947 to 1954 models,
stylists conceived the five-window cab, formally known as the
Deluxe Cab, to eliminate the blind spots in the rear quarter panels
of the cab. This allowed the driver to look over his shoulder to
view the rear instead of poking his head out the window.
Chevrolet recognized that its trucks had to be more than
workhorses, but also comfortable vehicles to drive. The automaker
also recognized that the truck was no longer just a farm truck, but
also driven as suburban transportation, with a greater number of
women getting behind the wheel. Chevrolet marketed the truck with a
new postwar approach. Chevy expanded the glass area of the 1947
models by 22 percent over the prewar designs. It also developed a
new safety-glass technology. For the five-window Deluxe Cab models,
Chevy marketed the feature as "Nu-Vue Rear-Corner Windows." These
rear quarter-panel windows curved with the contour of the cab to
eliminate the blind spot. Stylists finished all the windows with
stainless steel trim.
This 1948 5-window truck is a high-quality restoration with
upgrades in power and comfort and has been lowered 2". It is
powered by the 261ci 6-cylinder engine with a Fenton 2-carb intake
and a Fenton split exhaust manifold plus a Saginaw 4-speed
transmission. This truck also features power front disc brakes. The
dark green paint with a small cream pin stripe around the belt line
makes for an outstanding look. Moving to the bed you will find a
highly polished mahogany wood floor with polished stainless divider
strips. The bed also features a super nice leather storage trunk
with a cover. The interior is breath taking with high quality green
and dark tan high back bucket seats from a Ford Expedition with a
console, cupholder and fold down inner arm rests. Interior features
also include air conditioning, radio and 3-point seat belts. This
great example has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system. It
comes with extensive photos of the restoration and has just 2,500
miles on it since restoration was completed in 2015. Jump in this
