Wood-spoke and metal wheels within wide whitewall tires One of the
luxury giants of the 1920s and 1930s, Pierce-Arrow, along with
Peerless and Packard, oozed luxury. We at MotoeXotica Classic Cars
are pleased to offer this very handsome 1931 Pierce-Arrow 8-43 Club
Sedan. The 8-43 Pierce-Arrow model stickered for $2,785 when new
and the company claimed a top speed of 85 miles per hour! This
particular Pierce is fromthe John Porbeck Estate, right here in
St. Louis Missouri. John owned this car since 1997 and we also have
his1934 Pierce Arrow 1240A Five-Passenger Sedan offered up for
sale. The red and cream paint and metal trim on this car are in
very good order overall. We found a minor blemish on the left hood.
The windows and windshield are clear and crack-free. All of the
lights, including the fog lights, are in good shape despite the
patina. The car rides along factory wood spoke and metal wheels,
surrounded by wide whitewall bias-ply tires, sized 6.00/6.50-19.
The body panels are straight and solid and in fantastic shape, even
the rubberized roof. There's no trunk in the rear or faired-in
cargo area on this vehicle. There is, however, a side-mounted spare
tire on the passenger side and the engine bay is in tidy condition.
Under the hood is a 366 CID straight eight-cylinder engine with
nine main bearings and a Stromberg UU-2 carburetor, linked to a
three-speed manual transmission. Open the driver's door and a
russet-colored interior greets you. The bench seats are in very
good order and the matching carpet is in decent condition. The
russet headliner's condition mirrors that of the seats. The
instrument panel and four-spoke steering wheel are in good
condition. There is a hand-crank for the windshield wipers.
Currently the temp gauge is inoperable. The mirror glass and shift
lever are in good order. The window sills are finished in gorgeous
wood, metal grab handles for easy passenger ingress and egress, and
there is a tray on either side of the rear compartment to cater to
the passengers. In 1928, theStudebakerCorporation ofSouth Bend,
Indiana, gained control of the Buffalo firm. The association was to
last for five years, with moderate benefits to both companies'
engineering departments, which continued to function as separate
entities.Pierce-Arrow also gained a dealer network, as the cars
were sold through Studebaker dealerships. Under Studebaker's
ownership, Pierce-Arrow retired the venerable six-cylinder engine
and in 1929 introduced an L-headstraight-eight engine, which
displaced 366 cubic inches. This car is currently located at our
facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer
shows 90,622 miles since the gauges were tested and reset. It is
sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, exempt mileage title.
