In the early 2000s, supercars were the greatest desire as all the top marques aimed to produce their flagship model. Porsche with the Carrera GT, Ferrari with the Enzo, and even Ford with the GT. Mercedes enlisted the help of its then Formula 1 partner, McLaren, to produce the SLR. The SLR name is a tribute to the 300 SLR endurance racer of the 1950s. Like the 300 SLR, sustaining high speed over the course of hundreds of miles remained the focus of development, so Mercedes–McLaren focused more on grand touring than on all-out track performance. The SLR was meant to be the everyday supercar. Mercedes and McLaren fitted an all-aluminum 5.4 liter supercharged V8 with 617bhp and 580 lb-ft of torque. 0-60mph took under 3.5 seconds and top speed achieved was around 208mph. Mercedes and McLaren used their know-how from Formula 1 and developed a carbon fiber monocoque, carbon-ceramic disc brakes measuring 15 inches in the front and 14 inches in the rear, and an active rear spoiler which acted as an airbrake or increase downforce. Inside was fitted with custom-fit leather seats, high-end speakers, and automatic climate control reinforcing the grand touring ambitions Mercedes and McLaren set out to produce.
This 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLR Coupe is in excellent condition throughout having been collector owned and cared for from new and with just 500 miles from new. With only about 2,000 cars originally sold (in all variants), some driven harder than others, low-mileage examples such as this are very difficult to find. The SLR sits on original tires, has its original window sticker, original books and brochure, first aid kit, and Mercedes trickle charger.
