The 1986 Buick Grand National has remained one of the more
desirable American built performance cars of the 1980s. The car
featured an impressive turbocharged 3.8-liter V-6 engine which
produced 235 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 330 ft-lb of torque at
2,800 rpm. Paired to an automatic transmission the Grand National
was capable of reaching 60 mph in just 4.9-seconds and could
accomplish a quarter mile run in under 14-seconds, very impressive
figures for the 1980s.
This unique Grand National was built by Lingenfelter Performance
Engineering for Bruce Cox of Royal Purple. It was displayed at
Royal Purple's SEMA booth and was selected as a Golden Ticket
winner at SEMA. Numerous modifications were made to the car while
maintaining its 1980s styling. Modifications included tuning the
car's turbocharged 3.8-liter engine to produce over 500 hp, as well
as the installation of a RideTech suspension, StrongARM control
arms, coil overs, and Baer four-wheel-disc brakes. The car rides on
UHP compound tires which are mounted on Weld forged racing wheels.
The interior features a full console, Recaro bucket seats, and
accessory gauges to monitor the vehicles vitals. The car is
accompanied by GM build sheet, owner's manual and 1986 warranty
documents.
