1971 Pontiac GTO. Many consider the GTO to be the one that started
the muscle car craze in when it was released in 1964 based on the
mid-size Tempest. The public took notice and the Muscle car war
began. By 71 the government had begun to step in and with the new
emission standards and insurance rates skyrocketing the short-lived
muscle car era was over before it really got started. The GTO would
have one trick up their sleeve with the 71 GTO 455 HO option.
Claiming to be the fastest GTO ever built they would be supplied in
very low numbers making them extremely hard to come by today. This
real 242 GTO is a great example and has had a period correct 455
installed under the hood giving this menacing black beast plenty of
bite. The ram air hood fits nicely and reminds people you mean
business. The 200r4 OD transmission shifts nicely with no
hesitation when stomping the pedal and dropping a gear.Get here on
the highway and the OD kicks in bringing the RPM's down making for
a huge difference in fuel economy not to mention wear and tear. The
big corporate 10 bolt Posi- rear end is sure to lay down as much
rubber as the local authorities will allow. The Weld wheels are
classic and compliment the blacked out menacing look that is sure
to grab everyone's attention. The big wing on the back will get
plenty of compliments as you blow past the guy next to you. The
interior of the car is clean and as you would expect black keeping
with that whole menacing theme. The center console has the shifter
mounted right in arms reach making sure no extra effort is needed
to drop it in and drive and smash the gas. With a production run of
less than 9500 cars in 1971 these REAL DEAL GTO's are becoming more
and more popular with collectors making this 1971 an excellent buy.
