Vehicle Description
History
The Chevrolet Corvette (C3) was a sports car that was produced by
Chevrolet for the 1968 through 1982 model years. Engines and
chassis components were mostly carried over from the previous
generation, but the body and interior were new.
Why Its Special
The 1972 Corvette LS 5 we have here at Skyway, was the last year
for chrome bumpers at both front and rear, the vacuum actuated
pop-up windshield wiper door, as well as the removable rear window
common to all 1968-72 coupes.
Mechanical Specs
The LS-5 454 engine in ours was rated at 270 horsepower. The
correct automatic transmission handles the muscle perfectly. You
will also see that it has air conditioning, power steering, power
brakes, a detailed engine compartment that looks like it just came
out of the factory with period correct hose and tower clamps,
chrome valve covers, air cleaner, and a chrome alternator.
Interior
The interior sports a correct color of tan leather pair of bucket
seats with matching door panels, tan carpet, factory assortment of
performance gauges, stereo radio, console, and seat belts.
Exterior
The 1972 Corvette would be the last model year to feature both
front and rear chrome bumpers, a bright egg-crate grill,
side-fender grills, and a removable rear-window, this had been a
standard feature from 1968-1972. The red paint is nice as is all
the fiberglass panels.
Conclusion
The race-car driver Tony DeLorenzo test-drove the 1972 Corvette
back then for a magazine article and stated "you can't get a better
overall performance car. I'd be hard-pressed to find a better car
for the money than the 'Vette. It's just an incredible automobile."
