Vehicle Description
History
Mercury is a defunct division of the American automobile
manufacturer Ford Motor Company.
Although the initial Mercury Eight was a distinct design, for much
of the existence of the division, Ford would rely on common
underpinnings from Ford or Lincoln to save on development costs.
The Mercury division of Ford consisted solely of the Mercury Eight
in 1950.
Why Its Special
With that in mind, the 1950 Mercury Coupe we have at Skyway
Classics is not your typical Merc. It is what is commonly referred
to as a Lead Sled.
And what a lead sled it is!
Mechanical Specs
Almost every piece of this 1950 Mercury Eight is customized with an
enormous amount of custom parts, engine, upgrades, interior
comforts, and improved handling.
A highly modified car requires a highly modified engine and that is
what you get here with a fuel-injected 350 cubic-inch Corvette V8
Corvette engine. Custom aluminum panels cover everything in the
engine bay and give it quite the clean look. It also has power
steering and front disc brakes.
Interior
No money was spared with the complete custom interior either. It
starts with tan leather bucket seats, AM/FM/CD changer stereo, air
conditioning converted to R-134a, power windows, power locks,
remote door openers, and an overhead console. The driver grips the
leather and chrome steering wheel and looks at the custom digital
dashboard.
Exterior
The Merc has a ton of custom body work painted in pearlescent
silver paint. Its front end has a custom front bumper, frenched in
headlights, shaved door handles, integrated rear fender skirts, and
hood scoops. Its rear end has a custom rear bumpe and custom
taillights, this baby is quite a site.
It rides on custom mag wheels with great tires and sound real nice
with its dual exhaust coming out the back end.
Conclusion
The original 1950 Mercury was a great car in its day, but this
custom version we have at Skyway Classics is so well done, the
early ones pale in comparison. This Merc needs to be seen to be
believed.
